Some thoughts on "moments" (5).

Nature.

Beside "being as one" with your camera the main things are know your subject and patience.
If you are making adjustments to your camera and not loooking through the viewfinder you will miss those moments.
Know where your subjects are likely to be found and their habits. Also know which way the sun will be shining to make photography easier.
Patience helps a lot - just take your time and watch. Sooner or later something will happen and when it does it will be over in a flash.
Most of my nature shots are done in an urban environment, mostly parks (no zoos), so the subjects are not all that skittish. A long lens helps.

Here are some examples, and all the subjects are wild.

#1 - Was doing some flower photography and this guy just hopped onto the path and we looked each other. Wasn't long befor mum and the joey was gone.

#2 - We were on our sunday morning walk and we noticed these mask lapwings feeding on a playing field. It was just a matter of lying on the ground and tracking them.

#3 - The first and only time we have ever saw a moose. We were hiking upo Cascade Canyon in the Grand Tetons National Park, Wyoming, USA.

#4 - Was photographing some surfers and heard a splash. Sometimes you can get lucky.

#5 - Tracked this guy for quite a while and suddenly both of us were rewarded. The lizard was gone in a flash.

#6 - Sometimes it is easy - From our back porch. These guys are regular vistors, depending on the season.

Thanks for looking.
