Some thoughts on moments (4) - Sport.
Some thoughts on "moments" (4).
Sport:
This is from photographing motor racing events for 11 years or so
If shooting anywhere but in the pits and garages, long to very long lenses are a necessity.
I try to capture "moments" and competition.
To do that, when subjects are around you do need to be tracking them through the viewfinder.
You do neeed to know how to operate your camera and how to set it up for focus tracking.
When shooting we tend to follow the light. I do like shooting in the rain as you can shoot almost in any direction (shooting into the sun may make life difficult).
You have no control over the subjects or the light, and limited control over your shoting position.
Motor racing is dangerous and sometimes you may see things you wish yoiu hadn't.
Here are some examples.
#1 - This is why you always track a single vehicle.
#2 - This is why you track vehicles that are close together.
#3 - Sometimes you get lucky and are tracking the right vehicle at the right time.
#4 - Why I like shooting in the rain.
#5 - It pays to know your subject, the driver loves his racing. This image has very little cropping.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks. For some of these shots I was shooting trackside (not from the spectator side of the fence).
