<<Sony is very good at overpricing.>>

"Overpricing" is relative - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

If you are happy with the older, lower-priced models, that is FINE!!!

If Sony drops the price of the RX100VI once the VII hits the market, that just might be the hot ticket. If the price is right, I could be tempted.

If they do, it is usually $100.00.

YEs, but it's $1200. For almost that, I can get a Fuji X-T30 with a kit lens.

The Sony IS designed as a pocket camera. The Fuji with lens is NOT.

I hope that happens, and that you are tempted! :-)

I thought I read that it could do a very high frame per second rate but only for like 7 frames duration. I could be wrong, and it is not of enough interest for me to dig further. Perhaps others have.

There are major differences between the II and VI one being the focal length 28-100mm vs 24-200mm.

The other is the speed of the glass...

Sony has introduced a new RX100 about every other year. No big deal. Has A9 speed, 20 frames a second, SO WHAT. What photographer will buy this for wild life , it only reaches out to 200 mm. Now, if it went to 600 mm, NOW YOUR TALKING.
Sony has really missed the boat on the RX series. One of my big grips is the lack of a HOT SHOE. The camera cost $1200.00 with no hot shoe. The Sony RX100 II is still the only RX100 with a hot shoe.
Not really much different besides the speed from the RX100VI. IMHO
I will say Sony is very good at marketing.

Perhaps, however, the little Sony fits into a very small pocket, provides a zoom, flash and speed... somethings the others don't seem to do so well at the diminutive size of the Sony.
Cheers!

For those who don’t have a DSLR or MILC camera, these kinds of cameras work very well. Not everyone wants or needs such a camera, and a pocket camera works well for the casual photographer, especially a camera that offers the features of the RX100 series. These small cameras offer the size and the convenience of fitting in a shirt pocket, while being able to produce great images. It’s just too bad they cost so much. Twelve hundred bucks is a lot of money, but if it’s ones only camera, it may be worth the price. Would I buy the RX100VII? Probably not, as the added features and functions don’t look like they’d be ones that would be of much use to me. Then again, it being the same price as the RX100VI, why the heck not?

I was talking about the differences between the VI and VII being minimal. Sony puts just a few improvements for each model. Just enough to create GAS, but little difference in image quality. And my 28-100 is 1.8.

The f/1.8-2.8 lens is best for my purposes (low light, sans flash). The new slower lens with the big zoom is a different pocket camera for another purpose (in my mind).

It shoots 20 fps continuously with full auto focus and auto exposure... it will shoot a burst of 7 frames at 90 fps!

Oh, and among other improvements it has a built in intervalometer!

Thanks for clarifying... I’m not sure what 7 shots in 8-9 hundredths of a second is good for unless perhaps water splashes and such...

Figures! I just received the Sony RX100 VI that I got used from Adorama for $200 off. The biggest difference that I can see is the sensor and image processor for improved AF and speed. I’m not sure if it is worth the extra cash!

Previously, I had the RX100 III which is now in the procession of my granddaughter.

I doubt it's aimed at people like you. I think it's aimed at those who have no intention of purchasing a DSLR, or already own one but require a smaller but versatile camera for holidays etc.

I carry an RX100M4 in my messenger bag all the time. It compliments my other imaging systems.
