Cute critters, can be a real PIA though.
Yes they are, and yes, They sure make a mess by nibbling branch tips off of our oak trees.

It's a shame you only had the camera, and not the gun.
It is funny. I used to shoot and eat red squirrels. Just lost interest.

Nice shots. I have learned to hate squirrels also, primarily because of the fire danger if they get into your attic and chew electrical wires (which has happened to me). They also apparently like to sharpen their teeth on aluminum. Not only did they chew through dozens of aluminum wire twist ties that are used to attach chain link fence to the top rail, but one actually chewed through the aluminum stranded neutral wire from our pole transformer to our house which must have been 3/4” thick. Recently two owls have taken up residence in our patch of woods, and the squirrel population has coincidentally dropped precipitously.

Yes, they can present quite a danger. Last year, we had a nesting pair of hawks. Did not notice any reduction of the squirrel population : ( We also have the occasional owl, but that does nothing either.

I put a jet spray nozzle on my hose and when the fluffy-tailed tree rats are on the Electric lines, I splash them then listen to their chatter in the neighbors trees. Great fun for all.
I wonder what a pressure washer would do?

If squirrels are a problem in your neighborhood, get a hawk to nest in one of your trees. My neighborhood had a lot of squirrels until a hawk pair took up residence in a pine tree in the backyard. Squirrel population nosedived. But then we had to listen the screeching of the hawks all day long.

Stan
Yeah, Stan, I mentioned in an earlier response that we had a nesting pair of hawks last year but did not notice much of any, squirrel decline. And yes, those hawks almost sound like toucans.

Looks like you may have gotten that ear with a BB during an earlier encounter. Your aim and focus are spot on with these Tom.
Nope. That wasn't me. Oh, and thank you very much, Vic!

Yeah, but we can't enjoy even our squirrel proof feeders in the way that we want to.

I have had squirrels try to eat through the plastic water fittings in my pond. Usually happens in the winter if the pond is frozen. Little buugers can hear the water flowind in the tubing!
Interesting. I never thought that they would do such a thing. It makes sense though.
