Agree with MT Shooter and others - D850...or...wait for the rumored next generation of Zs. In my estimation and years with digital I cannot say what else would Nikon produce that would make me sell my D850.
Ps. the new 500mm Nikon lens is a fabulous lens on any DSLR.

I’ve had a Nikon D3S and just now bought an 850 and love it! I have a full array of Nikon lens, I was about to go with the Z! No regrets! No mirror issues! It is a fantastic camera! I shoot landscape, nature and wild life, some travel!

You will enjoy whatever you choose!
Good luck!

Imagine the people who bought the last of the model T's years ago.
They spent years watching others drive the new better stuff while they bounced around in their old tech cars.

Dont be the modern equivelant with the 850. Get the Z7 😁

When making the decision whether to buy a Z7 or not, I looked at a bunch of differences in the technologies, but one question finally settled it. Does the Z7 take better pictures than the D850? The answer is no. Same number of pixels, same ISO range, and same fps (with power grip on the D850). Until the Nikon mirrorless cameras take better pictures, their dslr technology is not obsolete.

Understand your position.
Nikon is releasing firmware to improve the focusing on their Z series camera's (which was a big knock on them). The firmware reportably makes the Z camera's capable of focusing on the eyes of people. Later this summer Nikon has mentioned that they will release more firmware to make their Z camera's focus on the eyes of animals.
IF this happens it could be a game changer for the Z camera's. I have always liked the two major advantages of mirrorless camera's. They are: 1. No need to ever fine tune a lens ever. 2. in Manual you see exactly what the exposure is going to be before you take the shot.

I don't like cameras that look like they were carved out of a rectangle block of wood. To me, looks and comfort and performance mean everything in a camera. I like the looks and feel of a substantial size camera in my hand. Nothing about the new mirrorless craze technology makes me want to buy one.

The bottom line is....there is no clear winner of a Z6 or Z7 up against a D850, also I like the looks of a rounded off DSLR.

D850 is currently discounted. Announcement of D760 and D860 expected in September, or sooner.

Great Point ...

I called Nikon yesterday. NO PLANS FOR D860 or D760. Rumors are always going to be there. Yes, eventually their will be a successor to all camera's. But only the company knows, and they are saying NOTHING. And NO ONE else knows either.

There will be eventually, but they're not going to tell you anything. I did read that Nikon bought a Sony 60MP FF sensor, but only they know their plans for it and what the timeline would be.

The best looking Nikon body (excluding film cameras) is the Df, black or silver.
But that’s not relevant to this discussion.

No, you are correct, it is not relevant to this discussion. And the reason is that it is obsolete when compared to the D850.

Didn’t mean to be offensive.
It was triggered by a post that referred to the “looks” of the cameras.
I said that the comment was not relevant to the discussion, but I don’t think it was objectionable either.

The limited edition black & gold DF has both of those cameras beat. This is also not relevant to this discussion.

You are right about the black and gold DF--I had not thought about it.
Be careful, though, you might get chastised for irrelevant responses.
