Let us be clear about the definition of socialism. It is a system in which private enterprise is taken over by governments. The governments of many countries in Europe are incorrectly described as socialist but they are in fact 'democratic socialistic' in which many benefits accrue to the population but businesses are not incorporated in the government and function the same as businesses in the US. These countries seem quite successful using this type of governance. Most office holders and candidates described as socialists in fact have no advocacy towards taking over business interests. Please honor this distinction.

They took over everything then failed as lefties always do.
In fact, you know you’re an i***t leftie if you say “The reason that “#leftie policy” failed is that the wrong people were in charge.
Fill in the leftie policy:
Socialism, f*****m, c*******m, progressivism, liberalism, democratism.
Medicare already exists and despite solid opposition to its initial start, it has reaped cash benefits to hospitals, insurance companies, doctors, pharm companies and a host of manufacturers of supplies and equipment used by these folks. I don't see how an expansion of medicare would create a problem for any of these industries except the insurance companies who are currently greedy, predatory and a major obstacle to medical care (ask your doctor if he likes the insurance industry). Do you weep for the auto insurance companies which will largely be eliminated if self driving cars become standard?

Why am I not surprised? Make up your mind without reading it? Typical left winger. Only wants to believe f**e news.

I made no comment about the content of the article that I did not read, prior to posting the comment in response to the one made by lenben. My comment addressed the resistance to left-wing ideas on this forum. That idea did not require a reading of the article pertaining to socialism.
So, surprise is ill-founded—I did not decide anything having not read the article.
Get off the high horse and walk for a while.

Read up on Medicare. It’s not free. A person pays into the program their entire working life. Then Medicare Part A is covered. Inpatient Hospitalization.
They still pay a premium to obtain Part B Outpatient care. That gets them 80/20 coverage. Then pay for a supplement and prescription & dental.
So it ain’t free. That person pays.
Read a book. Head over to Medicare.gov and learn.
Insurance companies are not greedy. Study medical expense ratios. They try to survive within the rules. Many fail. There’s maybe only 6 A+ rated companies in the US who are managed effectively and properly.
If younger folks get it, they’ll pay more since most pay during their lifetime and are covered at work. Makes no sense. Lefties make no sense. They just dream up destructive policies and destroy countries and industries.
I even help folks escape obakapigcare and save a lot of money. Greedy leftie government. Not companies.

If you think accidents will not occur with self driving cars then you are mistaken, insurance will not be going away.
Next time you visit your Doctor ask him how he feels about medicare payments and then ask what if everyone used medicare.
Accidents will be substantially reduced with self driving cars - most predictions are over 90% reduction. Medicare payments are the standard for the industry and are followed closely by health insurers to set their own payments. {Full disclosure - I am a medical doctor in active practice}. Medicare, incidentally, is a t***sfer tax with current workers paying for the retired. There is no "Medicare Fund". The retired get benefits but have to pay a supplement as Medicare only works for those who pay in after they become eligible. As the pool of workers diminishes and the number of retired increases, the pay in will diminish over time. Reagan recognized this and authorized a substantial increase in the Medicare tax. The tax has not increased since and the day of reckoning is approaching as Congress continues to kick this financial can down the road to be picked up by Congresses of the near future.

Like my grandfather used to say

I’m sure the citizens of Venezuela were saying the same exact thing you’re saying, now look at where they’re at now at this point.
