You wanted millennials to "....please state their reasons for using one smartphone/camera over another? Granted the technology changes rapidly but what camera is better today?"
My Samsung S5 was showing stress from nearing the end of it's too short life. It was the only "smart" phone I ever owned. The logical choice for advice was my high school aged granddaughter. She owns a Nikon and has 1679 followers on Instagram. Her Instagram "work" is done with her phone.
In my mind, she is clearly an expert and very good photographer. So, needing a new phone, I asked her, "What I should get?".
Her answer was clear and simple. "They all take good photos. Boys buy Androids and girls buy iPhones."
Not wanting my gender to be confused, I bought a "last year's", discounted Samsung Galaxy S8 Android phone. I've put Adobe apps on it including Lightroom. I can shoot a picture and it automagically appears in Lightroom Classic on my computer without having to do anything to make it transfer.

Millennials,
I know, the usual battle is between Nikon and Canon, but this is the 21st Century. I don't need to hear from the gray panthers. This is a different toy. Will those who know please state their reasons for using one smartphone/camera over another? Granted the technology changes rapidly but what camera is better today?
DxoMark does reviews and ratings for cellphone cameras. In fact, they seem to do more cellphone reviews than ILCs these days. They see the future and the future is cellphones.
Ed,
Is the price of film expensive?

My Great Grandson when he gets a little biggerš
Cell phones are getting larger & larger, aka, Samsung Note 9, iPhone XS Max. Seems to me they could just incorporate a minimally capable phone into a pocket sized bridge camera with all the photo bells & whistles like Sony RX100, Panasonic ZS100, Canon smaller power shots, etc...Then you'd have a camera with a phone not necessarily a phone with limited camera specs. Seriously, the actual cell phone part is just pretty one dimensional, just for talking....granted it would minimally increase the size....š šŗ šŗ...Cheers
For General images, my iPhone 8+ is more than sufficient, especially if I don't crop or zoom the image. Most of my macro is of insects that won't even fill the sensor of my APS-C cameras. Thus my iPhone isn't good at the kind of macro I do. If I want to capture an image of something farther away, zooming with the iPhone discards a lot of pixels and the IQ suffers. Eventually those issues will be resolved. Until then, my iPhone camera is relegated to taking images of the grandkids or scenes that don't involve cropping or zooming.
I have an iPhone 8+ and love it. Iām a member of āThe Tiny Shutter Podcastā Facebook users group and listen to their weekly podcasts. The consensus there seems to be the iPhone because of the Many Photo Apps.
That being said one thing the Samsung and other Android phones have over the iPhone is they usually have expansion of memory via SmartCards. Apple charges dearly for their memory in my opinion. I have 64gb and wish I had 128 or even 256gb
Apple is usually more cautious with there upgrades. Their latest phone is said to have 3 rear camera lenses while others have had that for awhile. So donāt upgrade till that release this Fall.
I wouldnāt let others influence you with āIts not a real cameraā. With dual lenses & computational imaging my iPhone can easily capture HDR images that my Nikon doesnāt.
There are loads of APPS and accessory lenses that expand the capabilities. Moment makes great wide, Tele, & Macro lenses around $100 each. The App Camera +2 offers a great Macro Mode not requiring and additional lenses.
Iāve seen incredible Astrophotography images using Smartphones attached to a telescope using Apps like NightCap.
I suggest you go to Best Buy or the Phone store and see what feels good for you. But hold out for the latest upgrade in September.
Iāve captured many images I wouldnāt have because I always have my phone with me.
I can shoot, cull, edit even in PS or Lightroom, then share in minutes. Canāt do that with most cameras. And I can save in RAW and easily print 13x19ā on my Canon printer.

I want one and I can carry it. Just that I can't afford a good one even used and I can't afford the cost of 8x10 film either.
Just checked B&H it's $179 for 10 sheets of Ektar 100 8x10.

NIKON! This gray panther is reminding you that this is a photography site that most people will agree that if you desire to take real photos then you should use a camera, not a telephone. If you want to know who the winner is between iphone or samsung,, you should find out which one looks best to you.
Respectively disagree. See UHH page:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/newsletter.jspI have shot Sears Tower rangfinder, Canon A series and T90. I now shoot Nikon D7000 & D500. I also shoot a very disappointing Canon ELPH point and shoot. I take the ELPH along on my bicycle rides for opportune "Kodak Moments."
On my bucket list is to get an iphone or some such as I know some models are capable of some very high resolution pictures as evidenced by a friend of mine who pushes his iphone to its limits. I'm interested in some dialog and even some examples by some of our UHH users of these phones. It might help me in my next photographic toy acquisition.
Taking from the link provided above, the best camera you could have is the one you have with you. It just might an iphone or whatever.
This post was written by an 82 year old photographer. So, I guess I'll just stand by and read the dialog for my benefit

As with any camera, one has to learn how to work within its limits. Digital zooming is not one of its strengths but there are accessory lenses that some users find acceptable. I donāt use them myself.

Check out the YouTube videos by Emil Pakarklis. You will be impressed. He uses an iPhone but his advice applies to all brands.

I've tried some of the inexpensive adapter lenses, but they were all junk.... Much like the accessory tele and wide angle adapters sold for DSLR lenses that screw onto the front of another lens
