Hello all, any hogs from here or nearby? I’m new to the area and looking for tips on interesting places to shoot! Thanks Marty

First off, welcome to the hog Marty.

First off, try the local camera club. https://abcps.club/location/

Always a good place to start..... Another I've done is search photo ops around xxxxxxx.

Try this. https://www.shothotspot.com/browse/united-states/pennsylvania/blair-county/hotspots/

My brother lived in ebensburgh when he was alive. There's lots of covered Bridges, Amish country, Rivers and streams.....Johnstown and Pittsburg are great.

The ops are unlimited, depending on what you want to shoot...

Good luck..

Welcome to the hog and welcome to PA! PA is a beautiful state and if you like to do landscape photography there is a lot to work with. Others have already given you places to go so I won't repeat. Just enjoy your stay.

Not a place to shoot, but a place to eat.
Tim's American Cafe
1600 Crawford St.
It's in a house and you enter through a side door. I'm serious. The staff is attentive and friendly, the food is good, the serving sizes are large and the price is good. I haven't had dinner there, but I've been there for lunch a number of times. The parking lot is across the street.
Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Horseshoe curve, Allegheny Portage RR, and the PA RR museum in Altoona come to mind. Not far away to the west is Johnstown [Flood Memorial], F.L. Wright's "Falling Water"; Somerset [Flight 93 Memorial]. To the north is Penn State Univ. and its campus. To the east, Indian Caverns, Lincoln Caverns, Huntingdon, Raystown Dam, East Broad Top RR [may be closed]; Swigart Auto Museum [small but excellent collection; in Aug. I think they have a car show]; Rt 655 from Mill Creek to Lewistown goes through an Amish/Mennonite area if you're interested in scenic farms and buggies. If you're interested in mountain scenery [Appalachian style], you're in the middle of it; the Fall season is as spectacular as anything in New England, and it comes without the crowds of tourists.

Altoona is not too far from Pittsburgh. Philadelphia is farther away than Pittsburgh, but it's not a killer drive.

Route 6 isn't close to Altoona

You could go off the beaten path to the small town of Loretto. My great great...great grandfather went there in the late 1780's before the town was there. Liked it so much he stayed the rest of his life.

An interesting old cemetery, an incredible, beautiful, highly ornate, old church built by Charles Schwab (the steel magnate not the investor) and Schwab's summer estate built when he was the biggest and richest steel guy in the world are a few of the area attractions. His estate is worth shooting. A small picturesque university is located there also. Very interesting, woodsy area in the Appalachains with numerous historical and photo sites.

Horseshoe curve, Allegheny Portage RR, and the PA ... (show quote)

Amen! This is the most cogent of the suggestions.

It's about 2 hours from Pittsburgh.

It's about 100 miles. If you drive really, really slow and stop for lunch, it could take longer.

George Burns was known to say, "They Still Love Me in Altoona!" That's all I know about the place.

I live about 30 miles from Altoona, Pa. Right in Altoona is the RR museum, "Horseshoe Curve" is just outside of town. Both are well worth checking out. Johnstown is southwest of there. In 1892 was the "Johnstown Flood" one of America's worst disasters. There's the Flood museum, and a short driving distance is Southfork, where the flood started from, (you can actually stand about 100 yards from where the dam breeched. It's still visible 100 + years later.)
While in Johnstown, ride up the incline with your car and get shots of the city, day and night. The arched bridge on the Conemaugh River, (in town) is lit with colored lights at night. A little further south, just off of U.S.30 is the "Flight 93 Memorial" Another site is the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site" And of course the scenery is beautiful in all seasons.
I have listed only about 10% 0f what is within an hour or two from your area. Good luck and enjoy "shooting"

There is also the Allegheny National Forest, about 2.5 to 3 hours north of Altoona near the New York Border. It extends into New York State a little ways. Then there is the Kinzua Dam and Reservoir (official name is "The Allegheny River Flood Control Project) situated along Route 59 in Warren and McKean Counties. A couple of overlook areas for that are Jakes Rocks and Rim Rock both accessible from Rte 59.
