And the Attic would be called "antisocial media."

I think the Attic is the REAL social media without all the PC correctness.... Take the gloves off and tell how you really feel !

A few years ago during one of Jeopardy's Teen Tournaments, Alex Trebek asked an 8th grader if he had a Facebook or Twitter account. When the boy said that he didn't, Alex asked why. The kid's answer summed it up perfectly. It was, "What's the point?"

Only when people are angry and impolite.

If so, can I claim that I actually exist?

Facebook is good for connecting with people who have similar interests to yours, photography for example. I am interested in the natural world and am in groups that relate to that. If you like old cars or trains or quilting or you get the idea. I do not use it to hobnob with folks or to report on what I had for lunch. I avoid the less than savory aspects of facebook. Imagine if you walked up to a magazine rack at a local store, you could spend your time looking at the periodicals wrapped in shrink wrap or the National Enquirer type publications or you could be looking at stuff of a certain higher quality by most people's standards. It is the same with facebook and other social media, it is up to you to have the gumption not to waste your time on drivel and minutiae.
