I never have pointed fingers but you have a serious problem. When I went to basic training in Texas I was shocked to see that the black airman were not allowed to eat except in the kitchen when we stopped on our way to Mississippi on Air Force buses. I wondered what country were we in. Bathrooms, Men, Women and blacks. Back to the original post, it was a great time to experience but also one of a changing time in our country, it wasn't all just "Rock & Roll". BTW , the video was and is a great reflection of a time long gone, just one page in the history book of America.

While you and traderjohn seem to be at odds in my opinion you are both correct. I was born in upstate NY. When my twin brother and I joined the Marine Corps we headed for Parris Island, SC. After boot camp we were sent to Memphis, TN for training. It was there that education began for two white kids from NY. We had heard of separate drinking fountains, blacks to the back of the bus, blacks to the end of lines or at least allowing whites to cut in. But this stuff was true to life for us. Let me say that none of this happened on base but off base. To us this was unreal that blacks were treated as sub human. I do not recall black Marines putting up with this crap but civilians sure did. Unreal that people could treat other humans as less than human back then. We were driving around one night out in the country just looking around. We saw a bunch of lights ahead of us and wondered what was going on. We found out what was going on when we saw the burning cross and hooded figures. It was time to skedaddle.

That was in March 1964. Yes things were bad. But that was then. Since then we have blacks at the very top in all walks of life, doctors lawyers, politicians, Secretary of State, POTUS, CEO’s, Deans of universities and so on. Racism is in the past if we let it stay there. But it seems that almost on a daily basis it is brought up again. When a black person doesn’t get a promotion it is because of racism. When not admitted to college it is said to be due to racism. When I didn’t vote for Obama I was called a racist. See where I am going with this. It can’t all possibly be racism. I have not been selected for a position. I moved on it studied harder for the exam next time and was successful. That is how success works.

Thanks for the memories. Grew up in the late 50s and 60s as a teenager and remembered all of the songs and many more. Loved my poodle skirts and the sock hops.

Dennis, thanks for the clarification. It's a two sided coin and to be fair we as people or the country need to be aware of both sides.

I was born in '49. I remember my mother loving Dick Clark and watching Bandstand every day. It's interesting looking back and remembering when my mother was young and liked Rock and Roll. She used to have her favorite dancers, too, on the show.

Goto Youtube. I had found a Chinese dub-step hip-hop tik-tok video.

Nooo it was worse than that.

You are welcome. I do think you both are correct in what you are saying. There are indeed two sides that are worth mentioning.

Dennis.
