Either you or the retailer can run the serial number to see if a camera is on the recall list, before you make a purchase.

On the Z6 and Z7 it is probably just the mirror return. On almost all, or maybe all, the mirrors just ain't returning. Go figure.

Uh, Bill, there is no mirror on the Z cameras. that's why they're called "mirrorless."

Thank you, Architect. Mine is unaffected. Don't know why the natives are so restless here today.

When I read about the recall I decided to hold off until I know the one I purchase is past the recall. .

You still go ahead and purchase your Z6 now. Just ask your authorized dealer to give you the serial number of the body that will be shipped to you. Check and buy.

Bitterness at times.
I most likely pissed them off in the attic or something.

All have the same IBIS mechanism, could be more recalls as they have technicians to work on them. Can't do them all at once.

Pure speculation and nay saying on your part. I think they had a quirk in a component and their records allowed them to recall only the potentially affected cameras.

Here is why.
If you did not buy your Z camera new but from someone who decided they didn't want it and did NOT get it fixed or tell you it is on a recall list. You then have no idea about this issue and get screwed by buying a defective camera etc.
This is why it is good to know even if it does not affect you at that moment. Nikon will NOT be sending recall notices to non-Z owners so they will be clueless about it.
This is why we have this forum to inform.

This post is a good point, speaking from experience, I have a D80 that should have had a shutter related repair early on...it never did, I bought it used (learned of the issue when things started to go bad), and the fail happened after a few months of use....it was a slow death, occasional to often to repetative to total now. Looks good on the shelf though, looks like new. Some said there was a recall, I didn't look into it, no sense at this point, uneconomical to repair, moved on......

You might be wrong about Nikon sending notices. They sent me one a couple of days ago on the firmware upgrade to my z6.

But I will check into this with my SN.

Mine too.

I’d be interested to know what the defect is, though. I am not convinced that mine is doing the sensor cleaning on shut down. When I force the sensor cleaning it takes a while, says wait, and I hear a click before it finishes. None of that happens on shut down.

I sent them a question on it. The icon they use to say cleaning is enabled is kinda stupid. It has a circle and OFF to tell you it is on.

Of course I did. I even posted that I checked the serial number on my Z6.

And I stand by my statement that when it comes to the Z series, "... the mirrors just ain't returning."

Unfortunately that’s how it starts ... then they announce a second and third range of serial numbers, etc. Good luck!
