I probably have narrowed my choice down to the Panasonic Lumix ZS100 and the Canon G7X Mark II. Does anyone have comparison comments between these two. I have looked at the specifications and realize the Lumix has much greater zoom. More concerned about the build quality and image quality, I guess.
Both are great cameras, and both are pocketable. The main differences you will see immediately are that the ZS100 has the longer zoom--25-250, and an EVF, whereas the G7XII does not have an EVF, and only zooms from 24-100mm, 35mm eq. Further, the G7XII's lens is f/1.8-2.8. The ZS100's lens is slower, but reaches farther.
Performance-wise, both cameras do well, and I think the Canon may produce sharper images.

I don't think rcarol was upset when she said the FZ1000 was not exactly a point-n-shoot. I do see the FZ1000 is listed as a point-n-shoot on various websites, but it is not compact and appears to be more of a Bridge Camera with it's bulk. More like a Canon SX50 or SX60. I think many folks consider the point-n-shoot model to be a camera that can be pocketed and grabbed out conveniently for a quick shot.
Just to set the record straight, I'm a he not a she.

Forgive me, please? I guess I was absent minded and honed in on the name carol.

Not a problem. It's an honest assumption.

Tried both and settled on the Canon because of IQ and the sharper/faster lens. I often need the faster lens inside buildings, museums, street photography, etc. where sometimes flash is not allowed more than I need the extra zoom. Both are excellent cameras IMO.
To me the viewfinder was a must.
I agree view finder is a must for me too.

In addition to my Canon 70D DSLR I have several point-n-shoot cameras including Canon SX50, G15 and Lumix ZS50. I want to upgrade to a 1" sensor under $600 and would be totally happy with a refurbished camera. I was just surprised to see Panasonic refurbished cameras only carry a 90 day warranty whereas Canon gives a full year.
not having read all 3 pages by the time I get to this has anyone mentioned Nikons p900- $600 ? I see a non canon (lumix zs50).
