Want to upgrade to 1" sensor point-n-shoot

In addition to my Canon 70D DSLR I have several point-n-shoot cameras including Canon SX50, G15 and Lumix ZS50. I want to upgrade to a 1" sensor under $600 and would be totally happy with a refurbished camera. I was just surprised to see Panasonic refurbished cameras only carry a 90 day warranty whereas Canon gives a full year.

I second that. This picture was taken with that camera. The only "drawback" is the limited zoom range compared with some others, including some of the Lumix models.

I did a lot of reading/specification research before buying my Panasonic TZ100. Sony had a better IQ [image quality] while using the same 1" sensor, but less zoom to the lens. I chose to take the longer zoom. While the typical small sensor "P&S" cameras are OK, the 1" sensor is 4x the surface area. Capturing 20MP on a small sensor is not equal to 20MP captured on a large 1" sensor.

While people use the word Cheap=Point&Shoot=inferior... P&S photos, especially with 1" sensors - taken photos are superior to the DSLR photos not taken while the DSLR is in the closet, too bulky and heavy to live with 24/7.

I paid the $150 referb price for the SX50... [Canon recalled them based on the rubber eye piece] I still use the SX50 but rarely ... it is a great camera taking photos better than it should with that little sensor but will not fit in a pocket.

I am happy with my Panasonic TZ100 purchase; wow is there a lot of special things the camera will do that I did not expect. Versatility complicates life a bit, but that is what the aftermarket books are all about. The stills from video are only 8MP, but with Photozoom one can jack up the resolution just fine. The 30f/s capture action like batting a ball or a cheerleader suspended in air. The TZ100 is filled with tricks.

At that time the Sony had not come down in price based on intro of a new model. My Panasonic TZ100 was just under $500 new having been superseded by the TZ[zs]200. Be aware that Trump's 25% import Tax (Tariff) signed this Friday will add 25% to camera Prices so do not debate the purchase too long. I just bought a $400 washer for that reason, saved perhaps $100 when the Tax hits the market place. A $500 camera will be $600+. That will be on Chinese products. Here's a list

So these cameras are made in China?

Just bought G9x - haven't had a lot of experience with it yet. It seems to produce good images. Very small to fit into the pocket while traveling. Not much of a zoom.

The Panasonic ZS100 is probably the best 1" sensor camera at your price point.

Mixed bag, some in China, some in Japan.

I use the Canon G9X as a second camera. It it so small that it fits into my shirt pocket. I believe that it is the smallest camera with an 1-inch sensor. On short work trips I take this camera because I can carry it discreetly in my pocket. I am happy with the performance as well--very good image quality. The only drawback is that the zoom range is not impressive, but it certainly is workable.

Canon G7X MK II is great and the larger body Panasonic LUMIX FZ1000 Bridge Camea is an awesome 1” with great zoom if you need more than the Canon provides.

Not sure where you found the part about a 90 day warranty - the official warranty from Panasonic - through authorized dealers is one year. My guess is that wherever you saw this it was either a used camera, or perhaps a refurb that someone was trying to pass off as new (there are a lot of scam artists out there) or perhaps gray market.

There is currently an "instant rebate" on the Lumix camera - reducing the price to just shy of $500 - so it would fit within budget.

Interesting note: My 2016 Honda Civic was built in Indiana. My granddaughter bought a new 2018 Civic that was built in Japan.

This camera can produce stunning images. I have one and I really like it's IQ and build quality. The price brand new is well within your budget. At least take a look at this camera before pulling the trigger.

I considered that camera but bought the G7X instead for a bit more range with the zoom. I went into the settings and adjusted for maximum sharpness (not the default setting). The picture I posted above represents what you can get in terms of sharpness. I carried my DSLR with a bunch of lenses to England twice and finally decided that it was "too much." The little camera has served me well and makes traveling much easier.
