The new UmiDigi S3 Pro touts a 48mp and 16mp backside duel camera and a 16 mp front side selfie camera. I haven't seen any pictures yet but I like what my UmiDigi S2 pro shoots. Very good macros! It won't be long before these devices have software based lens changes and then what will I do with my Nikon d7200 ??? Ha ha ha!!!
Might have to check out the S3, had never heard of it before your post. Thanks!!
One of my photography instructors at the local community college is a fulltime professional fine arts photographer at the Smithsonian in Washington DC. He showed the class a bunch of cell phone photos he took in his various travels all over the world. I was astounded that a cell phone could take photos of that quality... and these were straight out of the cell phone with no PP done. He used an iphone, IIRC.... an older model. SO, yes the eye is the most important component, we all now that. But, a great eye with a great cell phone camera (or any camera for that matter) is better. I don't have a great eye and need all the help I can get!! I'm still learning and have only 55 years or so of photo experience.
I'm pretty impressed with what my iPhone 8 Plus does with its camera. It only lacks a long optical zoom, but that's the case with cellphone cameras, anyway, and the so-called clip on accessory lenses are pretty much junk.
Like most things it depends. What are you shooting? if its action you need specific features, landscape sharpness, etc. I have an iPhone Xr. I am shocked at the images it can create IF I take the same time in taking an image with it as I do with my DSLR. I shoot raw on it (yes iPhones past 7 can all shoot raw if you use the right app). I shoot with a tripod especially for pano. And I usually shoot a frame with the camera in jpeg for the images I'm shooting with on my DSLR as a reference.
It is amazing how good of a pano the iPhone can shoot. I've blown up them to print in large sizes and they are every bit as sharp as ones taken with my dslr with a hell of a lot more effort.
one thing to keep in mind with cell phone cameras, they have to be good phones also with infrastructure behind it. Otherwise just carry your dslr or mirrorless in your pocket.. Hope you have big pockets. When you try to design something that tries to do everything it usually doesn’t do anything well. just look at the F-35!
This one sounds pretty potent, 4 Sony sensors, I do not own this phone, new recent release, just read about it; Huawei P30 Pro - 40MP and 5X/50X Dig. zoom , I think it cost around $900.00 USD
I have the Google Pixel 2 and I love, love, love it. Great camera! I also have a Nikon D7100, but I find myself using the phone almost exclusively for indoor shots of my cats and things. Or out and about at work or wherever I don't have the "big" camera with me.
Huawei P30 pro, check the reviews and the u-tube below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-RPyb_gz8Q The Chinese might know what pictures you are taking especially those political sensitive ones.
