Thunder and lightning in Florida? Are you sure?

isn't Florida the lightning capital of the USA?

We've had lots of thunder, lightning, rain, tornado warnings, and flood warnings here. It's pouring now, and this will be another rainy week.

Yeah, here to Jerry, not that we're far from each other...at least tomorrow is supposed to be nice.

Do you honestly think your post was any better than that of the OP? Talk about a wasted post and that would be your post this time as well as most of what you submit. Nothing but bitching and whining about someone else.

It didn't bother me at all about Blurry's post. This is supposed to be a friendly forum where we can talk to one another at will. Many of us have found online friends who we enjoy conversing with about different subjects. You could have simply passed this by and gone on to another post. Yet it was you who chose to waste your time telling us the post was a waste of time. Not my time. I enjoyed reading it and hope the weather changes so the OP can get to try out the new lens.

Have a wonderful day. I hope tomorrow you can get out of bed on the right side.

Hay Haydon, you got nothin else to talk about are what. My comment was not even issued to you. Have another cup of coffee and relax for a while. Looks like you need something, maybe stronger than coffee. Chill man.

Surely you realize on a computer site forum everyone has a right to interject comments when they choose in an attempt to accentuate the conversation. You had your say yet you have decided it is all about you. Perhaps it is you who just needs to fade into the quiet background as it is surely you who has nothing to contribute.

Try using some common sense for a change. This world is not all about you. The rest of us live here too and have things to contribute. You don't like that? Sorry Bucko, your opinion on my/our rights don't matter here.

We are all cleared up now, it was brief, just one afternoon and evening, next 5 days sunny! Great for what I like to do best.... Birding.

Good luck with the new lens. I am looking forward to seeing the results on the forum. Glad the weather cleared up for you.

I have shot extensively with the original 300 2.8 and 2X II - optically I could not see a difference - but the AF was slower and I do not pixel peep.

The focus is fast, that is one of the things that was supposed to be an improvement with the III version. My bigger concern is the focus system of the 5DSR, there is a big difference between the DSR and the IV when used for birding, the IV has a better focusing system however the 5DSR can be significantly cropped and still produce outstanding images.

Says the thunder and lightening outside.... What a bumber, new lens got here and the light is really poor outside, can't take it out for test images.

I felt the same way this morning. Weather too lousy for outside shooting. But Mother Nature is in a better mood this afternoon. She allowed Mr Sun to come out. Maybe today and tomorrow may turn out OK after all.

300mm f2.8 II, with a 2X extender. DXO has it as Canon's sharpest lens, I am hoping that it does not lose much with the extender, talked to Regis via PM before buying it, he says he does not see much loss. We will see, hope to get down to the river later for a little birding.

Great.
I agree with the MIII extender you should not see any loss at realistic enlargement up to 5'x10' for this lens.

Talk about a wasted post, your reply is the epitome of a wasted post.

Hopefully that storm didn't do any damage over there. Enjoy the new lens.

You have to realize it is about a Canon lens.
I have seen similar posts about Nikon products and all are gushing over the brilliant post.

Most of the reviews using Imatest like the 400 2.8 better - same for Nikon 400 2.8.

I disapprove of members making pointless critical comments like this. In fact, it is as much a waste of our time as the post of the OP you are trashing. Next time count to 10 and then don't hit SEND.

I was looking at that lens, DXO has the 300 off the charts sharp, they have a funky rating system, perceived mgea pixels, but they give the 300 45 P-Mpix, the deal is that the 400's were just a tad more than I could afford, I found this lens at a pretty good price through Adorama and just took the plunge. Regis here shoots the same lens and it seems that money is not a problem for him in acquiring gear, I talked to him about it a bit before making the purchase.

Here is a simple test with and without the extender, this chair was about 30 ft away and I thought that the thread pattern would be a good test. No sharpening or processing has been done to these images. I think that without the extender the lens is visibly sharper as shown in the crops, but 300mm is a bit short for birding and with the extender the lens still looks quite usable for birding and allows for substantially more cropping. Another plus is that the 300 is lot easier to handle than my 500mm, it is shorter, better balanced on the camera, and definitely lighter. The 400 would have been similar in size and weight to my 500.

I will have to do a comparison between this lens with the 2X and the 500 with and without the 1.4X extender.
