I guess you don't live near the store. If not then why don't you buy from a reputable store? Lower prices? Today dealers can't really sell for lower price even if they want to.

At the time I had no reason to believe they were not a reputable store. If the store is in Maine?, then no I don’t live near it (California). All I remember is I saved close to $1,000 in total by buying all my appliances from them, as opposed to Home Depot.

Not recommended by me. Personal transaction sour taste.

Run Away fast, not reliable, and not authorized dealer. Lots of bait and switch. Not in Maine, that is used to make you think they are good Maine folks.

Abe's of Maine is a camera store so how do you buy the same thing you could buy from Home Depot? Most camera manufacturers now impose the minimum price on their products sold by authorized dealers so if you have significant discount then it's not legit somehow.

Abe's of Maine and 42nd St. Photo, be very careful. Bait and switch and grey market.

Actually, not totally true. MAP is Minimum Advertised Price. Even authorized dealers have some latitude with pricing.

I purchased a camera from them and it turned into a disaster. Go somewhere else.

I now purchase all my equipment from B&H. They are simply a fantastic company, a knowledgeable staff and a wonderful return policy. There are other companies as well but I have a love affair going with B&H. Visit their store in Manhattan and you too will fall in love with them.

Thank you. This is very gratifying.

In each case they (Abe's) substantially undercut Amazon itself as well as other third party sellers.

Possibly because they're selling grey market merchandise and because they're not an authorized retailer they ignore unilateral price restrictions.

Authorized retailers used to have latitude on selling prices but unilateral pricing (made possible by the SCOTUS 2007 Leegin Creative Leather Products, Inc. v. PSKS, Inc. decision) changed all that. An authorized supplier, like Nikon USA for example, can dictate the lowest permitted selling price. Authorized retailers are obliged to comply.

Your very welcome, but just stating the facts. I simply love the store unfortunately I try not to go too often because I’d be broke lol.

Give Greentoe a try. I just purchased a USA warranted lens from an authorized dealer for $140 below MAP with no tax and free shipping to PA. I agreed not to reveal dealers name but did verify that it is an authorized dealer.

I too bought from them (thru Amazon); bought a used D700 and had no problems with the transaction. This was several years ago, before I even heard anything about them to scare me. Almost 100% sure that I would not buy from them again, given the deplorable track record. Maybe they wouldn't scam me (due to what I bought might be protected via Amazon), but wouldn't want to let them profit from my purchases.
