Thanks for reminding me to bring mine with me today for my shoot down at La Jolla Cove. I almost forgot about it.

They are handy to carry extra batteries, the lens caps, a notepad, hand warmers, an extra lens or teleconverters etc....

What do you want to carry in it? And will the items fit in that vest or ant other vest. For a carry set up I have a National Geographic small shoulder bag. I carry a camera (5DIV or 7D II) with a 258-300 Tamron and a a Canon Wide angle Zoom (sr. moment to size, think 17 to 40mm) Plus 2 spare Batteries and misc. I have used this even on several trips to Europe etc.

Hubby bought me a military style vest when we were planning to hike the steep and sometimes slippery Watkins Glen gorge trail. It has some advantages over the style you show. Pockets are deep and sturdy enough to hold large lenses, or a sandwich, or a water bottle. they can be moved around to suit your needs, and to balance your load. You can attach your camera strap to it, so the weight of your camera rests on your shoulders rather than the back of your neck. You can tie a tripod to it. I've got mine arranged so I can switch between my 2 favorite lenses without having to set down the camera or either of the lenses, an advantage in wet or dusty areas. Disadvantages are mostly that it's hot in warm weather, and heavy - so I use it mostly in situations where toting a heavy camera bag would be impractical. It does make me feel like I'm impersonating a war correspondent, however - here's a pic a friend took of me wearing it.

Nothing screams Senior Citizen than a vest.

Is the attached screenshot a bargain or bust?

I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,

The pockets look like they would be just fine for holding lots of camera cards and filters. Lenses? Not so much. Just think what that vest will look like when you start stuffing lenses into the pockets. The Michelin Man comes to mind.

I use a sling bag, which can be swung around to act like a backpack, or moved around to the front so you have access to everything without having to take it off.

My friend bought a fishing vest years ago from Walmart and still uses it. I made a pattern off it and made my own out of lighter-weight fabric. It's cooler in our hot weather but still carries a ton of stuff. I have so many pockets on mine I have to label them to remember where I put stuff!

I have looked at several of these vests and they are fine for filters, chargers and the like, but not so much for a DSLR.
This is a different idea, and can hold up to 3 cameras or one camera and an extra lens and a flash unit. It also has provisions for a tripod.

I found a fly fishing vest to be a better choice. More pockets and largeones that fit lenses.

My biggest complaint with vests is that they are way too hot to wear. I have one made out of a mesh material that i use for a couple of applications and is very cool to wear.
Your pictured vest appears to have too small pockets and not enough of them. Keep looking and get mesh.

In warmer weather, try a mesh vest. Much cooler.

The vests I own consist of an older model Domke, and three Cabela's Safari vests. Neither is currently produced. However, I found the last Cabela's vests on eBay, both in new condition. The pockets are adequate, they have mesh backs for air flow, and most of all, they don't have that bulky feel to them.

I've had the Domke for over 30 years, and it only gets worn in the summer, since it's starting to show a bit of wear.

In the winter months I usually put on a fleece jacket, then one of the Cabela's vests on top. Allows for maximum storage and freedom of movement.

I use the same method for astronomy when I have bunch of loose piece items.

The biggest issue is weight, because at first you tend to carry everything. Eventually you carry what you really need.

There is also the mobility factor, that is when you are doing your set up every time you lean, twist or rock back and forth you set a few lbs of gear in motion. You can of course zip up the vet and bring very thing in tight or you can do that I do. When I reach the set up spot I set the vest on the ground.

In fishing mode the issue is balance. If I slip and fall on slippery river rocks, the tackle hits the ground with me.

I is easy enough to try and if it does not work, you still have a vest for chilly evenings.

Good Luck
