My photography is purely amatuer; vacation trips, sunsets and sunrises, horticulture and occasionally groups or events. ( been taking pictures since 1948) Normal routine is to download and process the raw image in lightroom, then switch to Photoshop for further editing, corrections or composting. I have the original Google Nik set, On-1 and Topaz available as plug-ins to use for special effects. Does the new DXO Nik software offer any material advantage over either the original Nik or any of the other plug-ins?

What exactly does the Nix collection allow me to do that I can’t in LR/PS? They are offering it at $59.00. It’s not the money so is it worth having.
You can do everything in PS that you can do in Nik, but Nik is faster because of the presets and the unique method of masking, using control points. While I don't mind spending time in front of a computer, I really prefer using my camera. Plugins like Nik and ON1 give me back that time.

You had me going there for a minute. My parents had a Nix collection. Parents are long gone but my brothers and I have contributed as well.

Right now, minimal.
This article says "major" but the issues with compatibility and such many of us never experienced previously.
I think that DxO stated somewhere that their initial offering concentrated more on bug eradication than on enhancement.

So is this collection only for Adobe products plugins, or can it be used standalone or with other editors?
I think this offering is just Adobe plugins. They appear to be gradually integrating some elements into PhotoLab. For what it is worth (I know, that is precious little) I haven't seen anything about offering the collection to other PC platforms and applications.
I obtained it when it was a freebie; I especially use the Detail Extractor in Color Efex Pro; by itself it would be worth the $59!
