I would be very interested to know if this card will reformat and work in camera. Your symptoms sounded like the camera may have been powered off or the card may have been removed from the camera while the camera was writing to it, leading to data corruption, but not a card failure.

Since your images are not recoverable, it's worth a try, since it could easily happen again if the card removal process is wrong and not corrected.

Most images are NOT irrecoverabe, as stated in the above post! First try a SD card recovery business!!!!! You will probably be very pleased and pleasantly surprised!

Please note that on page 2, the OP stated that file recovery had failed. I was not judging that they were not recoverable, but rather asking for the status of the memory card given that the OP had judged them so.
In my experience, almost all data loss is procedural, not hardware failure.

UPDATE: unable to recover photos w/ recovery utilities and expert help. Having lost the shoot and spent money on recovery software, Lexar offers me a $29.95 refund if i jump through their hoops, sign an affidavit, send them photos of the card, swear to destroy their damned card and waste more time. I'll go on record: to Hell with Lexar and their garbage self-destroying product!

Sometimes part of where the file system resides becomes unable to be written. Which is why it is a good idea to create a raw image of the drive on a hdd (2 in fact) this can allow tools to work with the image and not be stopped by the physical damage to the card. I would use testdisk or Photorec by cg security to recover the files.
If there is some capacity being shown then the card is readable to some extent.

The way it appear to me, the OP did not try the use of a file recovery specialist. It appears to me that he possibly bought/used recovery software, which did not work. Also had a local 'computer technician look it it. And Lexar, with unsuitable results. The processes a lab uses can be quite different. Here is some info he, and anyone else in this situation may want to check out:

google " memory card recovery services " and read up on the processes they use and cost.

I used a service located in Nevada, but there are several. They can/do take them apart! The only major exception is a MICRO SD card that is physically broken (due to the fact that is utilizes printed circuits instead of components for storage (If my understanding is correct).

Here is some related YouTube info I found interesting; and even San Disk recommends using a recovery service.

Note on the SanDisk web site, they RECOMMEND using a "data recovery company":
"For Non-functional memory cards and flash drives
If your memory card or flash drive is no longer functional or cannot be accessed by your computer,
then you will need to send it to a data recovery company. They will attempt to recover data on your
memory card or flash drive. SanDisk recommends LC Technologies for this. LC Technologies specializes in SanDisk products."

It did, and apparently is okay. However, I will not be using it again; I bought a few new cards.

Costs of recovery service far exceeded cost of redoing the shoot.

Glad you can redo the shoot, particularly if it involves less cost. The sites I visited ranged in price from $300 to $500 for a card. Up to $$$$ for hard drives.
