That's what makes it a great trip...can't just stay in one spot while in CO, Utah etc. Head up/down over to McClure pass, Gunnison National Pk.
West of Colorado Springs and to the South is really nice especially when the Aspens are turning. Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Spanish for "Blood of Christ") Extends into New Mexico. I spent a year living in Denver and was backpacking every chance I had. Mostly RMNP and into Wyoming but spent time in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Crested Butte area.
If you enjoy trains, locomotives, etc, don't miss the Colorado railroad museum in Golden, near Denver. Lots of narrow and standard gauge equipment.

And hit the Coors Brewery while in Golden. The tour is great and a couple of free beers at the end is even better.

Nice shot. Everything I shot in my year out there was Kodacrome and I don't yet have a good slide scanner. I'm in the market for one just a lot of options out there. Got some great Aspen's turning shots with really golden tones after a decent amount of rainfall that year.
Colorado Aspen in the Fall.
Aspens & Upper Tomichi Creek
Aspen grove
Aspen above a pasture
Aspen around rock outcrop
Aspen trees in gold & crimson
Maybe Mesa Verde, in the South West corner?
Good color Nikonian. Ususally a short priod of time to capture it.

Let's see. If he had a lot of gold from the mines in '35 to '39 and you now have it you should not have a problem buying any camera you desire.

He was a miner not a mine owner - $1 a day on those days - we moved to Virginia City, NV in '40 where he earned $1.25 , only lived there a few months then over the Sierras to Grass Valley ,CA where it was $1.75 - A DAY mind you - gold was then only $35 an ounce.

I have a friend with a jewelry business and he also does repairs. When he sizes a ring down he keeps the little gold that is removed unless asked for it. Also vacuums around the work bench and saves the gold from filing. At $1600 or so an oz. it adds up. Also stock in Apple was $2.75 a share in 1980 and now is about $644. Talk about a gold mine.
In answr to the question. yes it is Paonia! not Polina
Colorado Springs. The air force academy and the garden of the gods, pikes peak and lots of other places in the area.
If you get to the Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, Lake City, Durango areas do some research on the "Alpine Loop". Its a off road trail thats extremly easy for your Jeep and abilities. Its all old mining roads from the 1800's and nothing is steep because wagons had to be able to get around on them. You can purchase books/maps that describe where to go and whats on the trails using your odometer. The photographic possilities are endless with the endless views, wild flowers, waterfalls, high mountain passes, old mining towns and remains...its just awesome and not crowded.Just ask me if you want more info.
