I will sometimes carry both my Canon 80D crop and 5D IV FF. It depends on what the subject is that is being captured. Mostly, what determines if I take both is the same rationale given by orrie smith (above).

I most photos assignments I like to carry my D5 and D4 Nikons. Usually with Nikon 70-200 f4 and 16-35 f4 lenses. This allows me to quickly use which ever focal length the situation requires. A lot of times the situation is changing fast.

ALWAYS two for REDUNDANCY. Hhad a "camera out of the jeep event" in India but had second camera. Usually D850 and D500. May add z7 next trip to get to know it better plus to use new ultra wide angle lens if it is finally available by then.

I carry a Canon 5D IV and a 7D II. Why, because one give me the advantages of a full frame and the other has the 1.5 advantage. I use no "S" lenses so all my lenses fit both. My lens caps are marked (ie. 100-150/150-225) os I know in a glance what lens I want for each camera.
AND BEST OF ALL THEY BOTH FEEL AND OPERATE THE SAME IN MY HAND. ALL THE CONTROLS ARE THE SAME BY FEEL. I DON'T HAVE TO EVEN KNOW WHICH CAMERA I AM WORKING WITH.

I carry two cameras when im shooting something particular like parties and such. Both are of the same brand so I only have to have one set of lenses. One is a crop sensor and the other is full frame Canons.

Locally, I usually only take 1 camera. For trips I usually take 2 FF cameras in case I should have issues with one. They are D850 and Df.

I now have three very equivalent primary cameras. Since the final one is quite recent, exactly how to use them most effectively together is still a work in progress. Most recently, the default configuration was a 24-70 f2.8 on a D850 and a 14-24 f2.8 on a D810. The more I use my D500, though, the more I see that despite a difference in resolution and frame size, it is really an equivalent camera to the two 8xxs.

Since I do not generally photograph wildlife or birds (other than casually), and based on the lenses that are available, I think that what is going to happen is that the usage will change a bit. I'm thinking that the D500 with my Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 DX will adopt the central spot, covering the range formerly handled by the 24-70 on full frame. The D850 will get the 14-24, and the D810 will get the 70-200mm f2.8. If I should find myself in a situation crying out for a very large print, the 24-70 can quickly find its way onto one of the full frame cameras.

Specific situations, of course, can certainly call for other setups and other lenses. Those are handled one at a time. Controls, menus, and most functions are very consistent among all three bodies. Image character is also very consistent, and image adjustments are identical from one body to the other.

I actually carry 3 on occasion, The first for the work ahead (FF), the second for backup or either close-ups or telephoto views (ASPC) and the third for Video capture of either the subject or to document my work if I think it's relevant to do so for teaching purposes at some later point in time to authenticate a set of shots or presentations I might choose to make.

I own & shoot both Nikon & Canon and love them each equally in their own rights. This can be difficult in trying to remember which item has what feature,......so I try to create a prescript before I begin and stick to the plan if possible so as not to trip over myself in technical blunderings.
It's a work in progress as you might guess and I still have my moments but the exciting part !

I have been at this for some time now and I have never considered myself as a "Photographer" but rather a Student of Photography , instead. The learning never ceases and that's the Good News about this Passion. I come to this site because there is wisdom to be found and utilized and shared among good people and I hope that continues. The knowledge we gain is a Privilege and we are the Lucky Ones Indeed.

Thanks Guys.

Primary camera is D850 and 2nd camera D800e. When I upgrade, the formerly primary camera becomes the 2nd camera and the formerly 2nd camera is given away.

I also use a Sony a6500 for casual, street and travel photography. This is because of smaller form factor and lighter weight.

Wow Bob. That is a handful. I have never shot a Hasselblad, but I appreciate it's quality. I had the opportunity to shoot a Speed Graphic when I was in the Army. A real workhorse.

I own one and rent the same model when I need two. I set them up identically so stills and video match — across cameras — in post production.

Fuji X100F, which has a fixed 23mm (35mm FF equivalent) F2 lens for about 80-90 percent of my shots, and a Fuji X-T2 interchangeable lens camera for everything else.

FYI, I spent a month traveling in Europe last summer and only took my X100F. I had zero regrets. Ironically, I took the best shot of the trip with my iPhone 8+, because I needed a slightly wider lens, which the iPhone had. Go figure.
