If you use mirrorless camera it is better to have two. Mirrorless camera's sensor is a dust magnet. So frequent changing lens on the go on mirrorless camera is not recommended. The new Canon EOS R is an exception its shutter closes when changing lens (I am a Nikon guy).

I use two Canons - a 6D MkII full frame and and 70D crop sensor. I should think my reasons are the same as those for many other photographers. The 6D MkII was an upgrade from the 70D. The 70D is still a good camera and sometimes a crop sensor is better for capturing wildlife etc. that's pretty far away.

I wish mine were the same model, and if I were more smarterer, I would sell my old models, and then use my 2 matching cameras at weddings. Unfortunately, as I upgrade, I just use my old main as my back up, then my old back up, becomes my back up, back up. Yes, I generally carry 3 camera bodies with me to a wedding, and at one point or another, there are photos taken on each one because of a different lens, or because I can't say "Stop the wedding, I need to change my battery"
If you have the option, definitely easier to have matching models. It's so much quicker to not have to remember which body you are using, when trying to adjust settings on the fly. There are even slight differences in the D-7000 and D-7100. My D-500 is more identical to my old D-200. It makes my head spin, but I make it work

Depends entirely on how much control I have over the travel and photography conditions. With truly severe weight restrictions, and no control whatsoever over photography conditions, e.g., on a couple of African trips, a Costa Rica trip, etc., I carry a Canon SX50 with Canon SX710 as backup (there are newer versions of both), but with lots of cards and backup batteries plus chargers. When I'm driving and have complete control over everything, I take all my toys: the above cameras, plus Nikons (D3400 and D610), and all the lenses, including the Sigma 150-600mm, and a solid tripod.

Only for events and weddings. I will travel with 2 if it's by car - if I fly only one but my lenses go with. I use 5DII & III full frame but I have an R now witch I will be flying out to east coast with next week. I have not traveled with the EOS R before but It's smaller so I expect it will be easier to travel with.

I usually carry a d h 50 and a d v. The 850 I use for landscape macro Phoenix things that I want to be more colorful or Rich and higher resolution. I used the D5 mostly for wildlife and actions because if it's faster speed. However depending on what I'm shooting they could be interchangeable.
