National Geographic has a wonderful library of guide books, especially National Parks. Lucky you! Please post images and ID them so we know they’re yours!

My buddy & I are planning a photo tour starting in New England & heading SoWest to the Cactus Forrest near Tucson, then heading Northerly to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Mesa Verde, Badlands in SD, Grand Tetons, Yellow Stone, Glacier NP, up the Rockies into Canada for Jasper & Bannf NPs before turning Easterly back across Canada to New England.
Looking for suggested sights along those routes that might include great Rt 66 sights, old trains, old cars or motorcycles, wildlife or other photo opportunities along the way.

National Geographic has wonderful guidebooks for the National Parks
When traveling east in Canada do drop south from Banff by jogging east to Hwy 40. This gets you to the highest pavement in Canada with sites to admire ( slight understatement haha ) then get distracted into the Peace Parks of Waterton ( Canada ) Glacier ( US of A ) Next would be Cypress provincial parks. Land like no other as it escaped the last ice age. Lastly Grasslands National Park.

Between Banff and Jasper are Lake Louise and the Columbia Ice Fields. Don’t miss photographing them. Also, take a bus ride in a special $250,000 bus the climbs atop the ice field. Very cool!
mizzee ... great suggestions ... thank you. I may try to post some images but I find that after I do PP on my old laptop & share images, I frequently wish I'd waited until I got home to edit them on my big monitor. But I might just try.
cyclespeed ... also great suggestions ... some I hadn't heard of. Thanks for making them.
Frederick ... went to Lake Louise years ago & hope to go there this trip. Hadn't gone to the Columbia Ice Fields or taken the bus up atop the ice fields. Sounds like something we should do. Thank you. And yes, I bet they are "cool". ;)
I've gone coast to coast twice in the past three years, taking different routes to and back each time.
My advice is to contact the highway or tourism department in each state you will visit and get a map; state highway maps are much more detailed than the maps in a road atlas. The maps are free and you can get the addresses off of the internet.
My second piece of advice is to stay off of the interstates as much as possible. West of Pennsylvania, most roads have wide shoulders so it is safe to pull over and photograph the scenes.
My third piece of advice is to keep your eyes peeled as you drive along. You will find beautiful sites in unexpected places.
My fourth piece of advice is to enjoy!
I would absolutely recommend the photographers tour of the slot canyons in Page AZ.
Photoman022 ... excellent suggestions. Hadn't thought about contacting the state tourism departments.
Thank you. Also like your idea of taking different routes & we will try to avoid the Interstates.

Is that the same as Antelope Canyon? My buddy & I took the Photographer's tour of the Upper Antelop Canyon last year & it was outstanding!! Have thought about going to the Lower Canyon. Are there other slot canyons near Page?
That is the tour I was referring to. By taking the photographers tour you must take a digital camera and a tri pod and you get guidance and time to take your shots. It was well worth the money we spent. Came up with unbelievable photos.

There are multiple slot canyons near Page. Antelope canyon is famous because it's the "best" in the area. You will probably have to pay a guide on a jeep tour to show you some of the other canyons. Or get one of the locals drunk and talkative.
Wow! Amazing trip. BUT between grand canyon and grand staircase you must stop in Page Arizona and photograph Antelope canyon ( they have special photography tours for serious photographers) and Horseshoe bend! Antelope canyon is otherworldly!
If you're going to Mesa Verde, make sure to spend some time in Durango. Check out the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad and take it to Silverton. Also, drive up to Ouray on the Million Dollar Highway. You'll see scenery you won't find anywhere else in the U.S. Be aware that there are drop-offs of several hundred to nearly a thousand feet along this route and there are no guardrails (when tourists ask why, we tell them that its because tourists keep knocking the off the mountain, but in reality its so that the plows can push the snow over the edge in the winter. While in Ouray, take a Jeep trip tot he higher altitudes for some unbelievable scenery. Usually there'll still be know up there. Couple years ago we had to drive through a cut in a snowdrift that was still about 20 feet deep in August. Let me know if you need a recommendation as to which trails in the are the most spectacular. Depending on when you'll be there, I could possibly meet you and take you in my Jeep. If you go to Ouray, drive about an hour north of there to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Enjoy your trip, but realize that you'll have to make several of them to see everything you want to. You could spend the entire summer in any of the states you'll be passing through.
You might want to include Canyon De Chelley. It is a little out of the way on the rout you are taking but worthy of visiting.
