My buddy & I are planning a photo tour starting in New England & heading SoWest to the Cactus Forrest near Tucson, then heading Northerly to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Mesa Verde, Badlands in SD, Grand Tetons, Yellow Stone, Glacier NP, up the Rockies into Canada for Jasper & Bannf NPs before turning Easterly back across Canada to New England.

Looking for suggested sights along those routes that might include great Rt 66 sights, old trains, old cars or motorcycles, wildlife or other photo opportunities along the way.

Wow! That's a lot of territory, better pack at least 2 dozen memory cards. Best wishes for a safe and fruitful Safari.

If you are into landscapes consider Bryce Canyon.

Sounds like a nice trip to take on a motorcycle

Create an account on Roadtrippers and on the
search page, select the camera icon to see what they show -

Google the towns you plan to stop at - example: photo op for Sedona - you will get a lot of ideas and info from those searches

Post your pics as your progress - and have fun

You could travel the rest of your life and die an old man and still not do justice to all the places you're talking about. Trust me, I've been doing it for the last 15 years. I could give you a thousand suggestions. Go to a good bookstore and find books on exploring The American South West and Inland North West. Just as a quick response to your destinations, while The South Dakota Badlands are a worthy destination they are a LONG detour from any of your other listed destinations. With that said, if you are taking enough time, that sounds like an epic road trip. Please don't take offense but a lot of New England residents that haven't travelled a lot don't have any concept of how big the western half of the U.S. is. My wife is from Boston, when her family visits we make a point of going on a road trip to show them around. Every one of them has been flabbergasted and we usually don't even leave the state wherever we meet up.

Thank you Shellback ... hadn't heard of Roadtrippers, so I'll look them up. Would love to do it on my bike but we're taking my dog, so have to leave the bike at home. Appreciate the good wishes.

Retired CPO ... first, thank you for your service (assume you were Navy or CG ... I was USMC). And yes, your comments are all good suggestions. Current trip estimate is a month & a half, but even that may be tight. I have driven all over the country several times (+ lived in the West), so I understand your comment re: the distances. Last year, we did a similar trip to the SoWest & there was so much we didn't see, that we elected to do it again. Good point re: the drive to SD. I loved the Badlands as a youngster & want to shoot them, but it may be a casualty. And yes, we are looking at books as well, but wanted to tap into the expertise at UHH also. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Try AAA. They provide trip recommendations. Given the length of the trip it might not be a bad idea to join.

Winslow, AZ; La Posada on Rt 66 and is a hotel you need to stay at on the train tracks where the Harvey Girls worked, absolutely beautiful and photogenic. Meterior Crater, Petrified Forest.
Flagstaff; Lowell Observatory, NAU, Sunset Crater, Wupatki Ruins, Walnut Canyon Hundreds more around there)
Sedona it self is a tourist nothing burger but in that area obviously the red cliffs, Oak Creek Canyon and in particular an absolute must West Fork, Slide Rock (Crowded) but fun, Many wonderful trails all over the Canyon.
Clarkdale, AZ; The Copper Museum, an amazing place will wear your camera out
Jerome; A former ghost town now artist colony with museums, mine tours and fun places to eat including another must stay the Grand Hotel in a room on the insane patient floor with the balcony. Beautiful views of the Verde Valley, San Francisco Peaks, the wandering Jail.
Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well.
Prescott, The courthouse and the Whisky row bars, again hundreds of photos and old Victorian homes.
From there to Wickenburg and fabulous shots all the way and museums with the upside down river in Wickenburg.
Tucson; San Xavier mission, old town, Sabino Canyon, the plane grave yard, and so many other places.
While in the SE AZ see Toombstone, AZ, Kitt Peak Observatory to the West of Tucson. Old Tucson studios.
In all these travels in AZ there are lots of interesting cars being used and tons of motorcycles being ridden you just need to know their schedules and look those up to match your itinerary.
There is about 59 years of places just in AZ.
