Thanks for that! I have not seen that spec. Well, actually, I never looked for it much since I don't have a x2 extender. Couldn't even find the spec that said it went to f/8 but I know it does from having tested that. Where can I find that spec? Might give me the incentive to get an x2 extender at some point.

"f/8 and f/11 Compatible in All AF Areas
With the EOS R camera, autofocus will operate over nearly the entire image area even when used with compatible f/8 and f/11 lenses. This means the EOS R can easily achieve sharp AF using lenses with smaller apertures, and is even compatible with select EF extenders for uncompromised shooting at an expanded range of focal lengths."

Thanks for that! This camera just keeps surprising me. Of course, just getting up some mornings surprises me!

Thanks, that was my understanding too. I checked all the info from Canon and couldn't find a thing. If it did it would be the biggest news story in photography. I know of no camera that will AF at apertures slower then f/8.0. I do have the 2X but not that camera or the 100-400 lens so I can't test it. Do hope to have the 100-400 soon but the jury is still out on the EOS R. One quick question, is there a delay in what your seeing and when you actually take the shot? I do need to do some more research. On the B&H sight on that camera under the questions the same question was asked and someone said that Canon had implied that it could AF at F/9 or f/10 but I can't find that info. Thanks

As dsmeltz just showed with the link he provided, the EOS R will focus at f/11. As far as any delay in the EVF, I have not detected anything and focus seems at least as fast as my 5DIV.

It depends on the camera body. Remember the EOS R maintains AF all the way to f/11. Previously the top was f/8. So this combination at full zoom would be f5.6+2 full stops or f/11. So, yeah it will have AF.

It was actually one of the most exciting features of the body (at least to me) when it was announced.

Thanks, I've looked all over and couldn't find that info even on the specs on B&H. Do you know where I could find it?

Ken Rockwell’s review reports autofocus on 100-400 with extenders. My understanding is the dual pixel with focus on the sensor requires less light than previous technology.

I have an EOS R on order and for me this was also one of the most exciting features. It will breath life into a couple older teles.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the info.

So glad I followed up on this, more info here then on B&H. I think this will be the new camera for my wife as the 300mm f/2.8 with a 1.4 and the 7DMKII with battery pack is pretty heavy. The 100-400mm is also going to be ordered. Thanks to all for the info and links. I still don't understand why this info is not shown on the specs, this is a big selling point.

Canon.com currently has a refurbished 100-400 L II listed for $1759.00. That's a savings of over $400 on a lens that is every bit as good as new.
