Indeed! What the photo community is able to get at a minimal cost now would be price prohibitive for many if the books were to be printed.
As for me, I can't enlarge a printed copy with my finger tips and I sorely need to enlarge everything I want to read.
Quite a chore to provide updates for something already in print.
I would imagine that there are places that could print them, with permission, and enlarge the print, but I don't know that for a fact.

I like to highlight and mark my pages for easy reference. Cannot do that with digital.

I can appreciate that, but most of the world is going digital...just like the cameras!

While it might not be as simple as it is with printed materials,PDF's can be noted and highlighted. It takes a key board and a mouse.
Hi & many thanks to all - great bunch of experienced folk here at UHH - your advice is much appreciated. Sounds like I needed to get these books a year ago - better late then never! If anyone has a view on my other post yesterday - "non-GAS" lens advice for D7200 Ocean traveller" please weigh in. It's a very complicated area for me & it would be nuts to spend thousands without knowing what I'm doing & why (sorry I don't know how to paste the topic link in here).

Hi, wondering whether any Nikon members who have both books, or know the contents of both, can advise whether a novice seeking to thoroughly learn the D7200 would benefit at the outset from BOTH Steve Perry's Exposure & Metering book and his Nikon AF Systems book? As a beginner who hasn't delved into AF modes at all yet, I wondered whether the Exposure & Metering book would do for a while.
I know ordinarily I could buy one now, one later but in 8 short weeks I'll be on the ocean with no internet access for weeks at a time. So if the AF-specific book is for much more advanced folk, I could wait & get it at its latest version a year or so down the road (ocean!) when I know what I'm doing a little better. But if the AF book is essential from the outset then I'd be best to get both now. That's the question I guess.
Thanks, Dione, Seward, Alaska

Steve's books are excellent and I would definitely recommend them. You will gain a lot of knowledge from them. The newest book on "Exposure and Metering" will benefit you the most initially since the other Nikon book is all about the autofocus system. I bought both of them as well as his Wildlife Photography book. All are excellent and well worth buying. Also, you might want to watch some of the many videos available on YouTube.

Why do you say "you can't take them with you"? I have all of Steve perry's e-books downloaded into iBooks on my iPad and take them with me while travelling, particularly in parts of both Europe and Africa without benefit of WiFi or cell phone service and am still able to open my iPad and read any of the books I have downloaded onto the iPad. I cannot confirm if this is possible on any Android device but can confirm that it works fine on an iPad IF the article, book or .pdf is DOWNLOADED to the iPad.

The OP said he'll be on the ocean for weeks at a time with no internet service. I have no idea if he has a tablet. Do you know if he has a tablet and will be bringing it on his trip? It's great to have a printed book in hand.
I have both Steve Perry's e-book and Mike Hagen's printed book. They're both excellent.
Hi again, I have a Windows laptop so I can store a pdf but it's often not practical to read from a laptop on a tiny sailboat on a huge & often violent ocean (fine in port though!), so books can be better. But I guess I can print sections to study enroute. Thanks all again!

You have fallen behind the times. Download Adobe Reader. You can highlight, strike through, underline, even write on the page. You can add you name to the edits if you share the documents and undo any of it.
Try undoing a highlight in a paper book.
BTW - I just tried all these in one of Steve's book.
I highly recommend the app and doubly recommend all 3 of Steve's books.

Not so. Many of his earlier books, which I have, are printed books, that, as I pointed out earlier, are highlighted and tabbed for easy reference without having to go to my computer.
Most of my books on photo shop are also printed, like my favorite one, "Teach yourself Visually" Photoshop CC. I also use the video tutorials available on line. So, I use both, but the book is a quick reference that I use most of the time.
Again, it is a personal choice. Like I said, I have used his earlier books, if he at some point decides to print them, I will then buy them.

It is too bad that he has gone to digital. I preferred print.
Just download the e-book to your computer and save the file to your Desktop or other place you prefer, open the file once downloaded and print the complete file off on your home printer. Presto, you now hove both a digital file and a hardcopy. Also, Steve keeps his digital e-books up to date at no further cost to you!
Best of all worlds!

I was not discussing choices. I was responding to your comment:
"Cannot do that with digital."In fact, you can do 'that' with digital.

Time to quit whining and get with the times...
I was quite respectful of your position and obviously that doesn't suit you.
