Interesting. In NY, a new car costs $10/year to be inspected for the first three years. Then it goes to $21.
That's because they don't connect to OBD port for emmision problems. Just a physical check for brakes, brake lights, horn etc. After 3 years your fair game.

And your point???
The ''And" was directed at the post about our taxes vs some Scandinavian countries. It is a so what.

Fairfax City, Virginia has personal property tax on cars also.
In Wisconsin there is a charge for hybrid cars to make up for the lost gas tax money. Simple principle, you have money, they take it.
Make them all pay, every last one of them. There should be a birth tax, a death tax, I strongly believe in an air tax, a flatulence tax, on people not cows. Gas taxes should fluctuate based on the price of oil. There should be an ad val tax on all transactions, purchases, transfers and barters. Tax them 'till the bleed then let them eat cake. For you who value big government, you have to pay for it somehow.
You, as a voter, should decide what you expect from your local, state and federal government and what additional programs you are willing to pay for. For we without kids, are we willing to support public schools or should we let the little brat's parents pay for that? Reason it through. What are you willing to pay for. After you figure that out--Get Involved. Write letters, e-mail, phone your elected representatives. Get involved in local politics, that's where federal candidates come from. Join a campaign, put your mouth where your money is.
One thing I am absolutely certain of is that sitting around complaining --like I'm doing--is a waste of time and effort. Do something!!
That doesn’t matter, the new people just follow what the old system was. You think by now it would have been changed. I know vote but that does help. Go fight it and tell me how it goes for you. Sick and tired it’s the liberals doing it. We are just simply tax to no end.

Hate to send this thread to the attic, but let’s not forget which party just voted another try at “trickle down economics” (how did that work out last time?) incurring a huge increase in the national debt, which will ultimately be paid for by guess what? taxes. I always thought the the conservative position was to contain the national debt (which I agree with), so what happened to that fisically conservative philosophy? Hard to blame that one on those liberal Democrats.
Change happens one step at a time. If you don't want to fight for your beliefs then don't complain about what "they" do, or don't do, to you. Aw the heck with it. I did my military time, I worked in my first election campaign at 23. At least I've tried. An who knows maybe somethings are a little bit better because of what I tried to do. Quit bitching and start doing.

I agree with you - the “it will never change, what’s the use?” Is a defeatist attitude and accomplishes nothing but a self-fulfilling prophecy.
In Melbourne Australia i pay about A$800.00 for registration and third party insurance. I pay about $900.00 for complete vehicle insurance as well.
I wanted to get tickets to a show. I had called the box office and was told there would be a $5 convenience fee because I was talking to a "real" person. She said I could always get my tickets online---where there was a electronic ticket fee of $5. You are screwed either way.

Most property is rented from the government. To find out if this is true, don't pay the rent (taxes) and you will find out who owns it.
When we moved 2 years ago from PA to FL. The transfer tax, takes etc etc for 3 older cars
was about $1500. Insurance in FL is sky high because they claim their are so many uninsured drivers.
I have never had an accident. We got our first ticket here from a camera intersection near a shopping area. $158 and we dont even know who was driving my wife or me.
When we moved here we got a ticket for rolling a few inch's at a light before going forward. $170 everyone knows after that ticket in the neighborhood. to count to 5 before going. Lawyer who processes these
tickets all day got it down to $70.
One good news is the law confiscation of houses and cars by the the cities like Philadelphia (the worst) has been changed. Man had a Range Rover he bought and someone in his house was selling drugs.
They took his car. 20-30% of budgets in some cities is this theft of peoples property.
