The other day I was in my house, the cell phone rang. Caller ID on my cell phone said it was my own home calling me. I was home alone. I had to block my own home phone number for three days. I then unblocked it. Two days later the same thing happened, it is still blocked. Someone really needed to do something about the call spoofing.

Wow, I seem to have hit a nerve with this topic. Yes, we all experience the frustration of not having total control of our phones. Luckily with the iPhone I can set it up so only my contacts can call me. Have not yet had someone use my own number on me. That would drive me bonkers.

I received those calls also and I reported it to the SS. Since then I have received no scam calls.

One time I received a spoofed phone call where the spoofed number calling my cellphone was my cellphone number. It is kind of hard to call myself especially when I'm not even touching my phone.

I had that happen to me twice.

I received four phone calls in the same day on my land line from the same number. Each call was a mechanical voice telling me my social security number had been compromised and I should call back the same number. The third call, I did call and the person answered as the Security Social Administration.
I told them that Social Security Administration doesn't make phone calls, they send letters, then called him an idiot and hung up. Half an hour later I got the fourth call. So again I called back and tried to keep the guy on the line for a little time by asking why I was called in the first place. He wanted my name, address and phone number, which I declined to give because he had called me. In the end without giving out any information he informed me that my Social Security number had been used for fraudulent purposes, including money laundering, in Texas. After only about two or three minutes he hung up on me. I've not received another call from that number. Also, I reported it to the Office of the Inspecter General of the Social Security Admininstration. Maybe they tracked them down and shut it down.

I personally believe the phone companies can and should do something about the spoofed numbers and the scam calls. Whoever suggested a fine on the phone cmpanies for each spoofed/scam call, I agree, that is a good idea, maybe the phone companies would stop them then. If the scammers can spoof the number, the phone company can stop it.

I accept all phone calls hoping I get a live person on the other end. For example, in the last year I received three calls from two "grandsons" and one "grand daughter" informing me that they had been in a traffic accident and needed money to get out of jail and pay a lawyer. One of the "grandsons" was so good in his delivery I finally had to break in to his story and tell him how good his presentation was and commented he should try acting for a profession if he hadn't done so already. He replied that I had done a pretty good job on my end also, and he hung up. I have been threatened by the "local sheriff's office", the "IRS" has told me they are watching my house (that must be boring) and various other "stuff". My "grand daughter" asked for $5000 dollars, at which time I told her that her outfit needed to do better research, as there is no way in hell I could put my hands on 5 grand. I always have better things to do, but the little time it takes to pick up on these calls is worth the fun if you get a live one. Oh yes, I have two grandchildren ages 5, and 3.
I accept all phone calls hoping I get a live perso... (show quote)

Yes, the other day I got a live one wanting to reduce the interest I pay on my credit cards. After a couple of questions he asked how many cards I had. I told him two. He said Master Card and Visa -- to which I replied no they are both Visa cards. He wanted to know how much I owed and I told him nothing that I pay them off each month. He then asked why I hit the button to speak to someone about lowering my interest rate ----- I told him just to mess with you guys like you mess with me. He replied F*** you, have a nice day and hung up!

Just received a phone call from a robo caller. Second one in two days. I let the answering machine pick it up. Rather than hang up after going through their speel, the person on the other end started going through it a second time. Then it started for a third time. guess three times is the magic number as they hung up after that.

It has so many errors that it would take a POTUS to fall for it.

The thing that irks me is that they can show their ID as your 'hospital or local school' when it is neither of them.

I've gotten this scam also. I also have received the one about having out standing warrants and if I don't call about them the police will come and arrest within a certain time frame...

I liked the one where the guy said my grandson was in jail and needed money to bail him out. Funny I said, I don’t remember ever having children. For a reply I got the click of the phone.
