It will still be cheaper than what we pay to support illegals.

Don't think so... check out the costs... else just chuck it on top of the 22 trillion dollar deficit.

Just be careful. Theft in Mexico is not a crime. It'S the national sport.

I won’t argue data that I’m not sure of, but what I do know is BOTH parties have squandered our tax money
To pay/support many countries, and illegals for decades.
The cost to support people from other countries, and in our prisons is in the billions.
You and I have to pay for our needs, why should we pay for people who haven’t contributed a cent to the US?
Since this is a photography forum, I’ll refrain from posting any more of my political opinion.
Take care

Before this thread get's too political with their stupid comment's, I have a suggestion...Why not invest in a high-end point & shoot like a Fujifilm X100? The photo quality wont suffer any with this camera and it will be less conspicuous than a full bodied DSLR. I find I'm shooting my X100 more than my DSLR. Have a safe trip.

I am debating whether to take my high end camera gear to Mexico or just take an inexpensive point and shoot camera. I'll be staying at a resort but plan on trips to nearby ruins for photo ops. Some blogs say carrying high end equipment outside of the resort is a risk. I would really appreciate reading about your experiences while sightseeing near Cancun.

I travel from Phoenix to Hermosillo and to the coast for diving, swimming once a year. We go with a group, usually there is no one around on the beaches. We married off our daughter last year in Cancun. I am the guy that takes the kitchen sink when it comes to my gear..three or four lenses and a couple of bodies. My recommendation is: If staying at a resort, take their sponsored tours. Take only the gear you need that day. Keep the rest in the hotel safe. Always look around and be aware of those you are with. Ask the tour guide if you have any concerns for your safety. After all, you bought the nice camera for those once in a lifetime shots...

We’ve traveled to Sayulita, Mexico each year for the past 10 years. I’ve always taken my camera, D850 last year, and haven’t had any issues. I use a plain camera strap as opposed to the “Nikon” strap so as to not draw any additional attention. The house we rent has a safe large enough to hold wallets, cameras, passports etc. there are some areas we walk to that are a little more isolated and in those cases, I leave my camera lock up in the safe. Honestly, there are places here in the states that I feel are more dangerous. Staying away from known problem areas and being aware of your surroundings is good practice anywhere.

Exactly! There are places here in Omaha that I would not think about walking around with a camera.

Just last night a pizza delivery man told me that he is from Mexico in the Guadalajara area. He is delivering pizza here in Southern CA but was an engineer in Mexico. I asked him some basic questions, how do you like it here as opposed to Mexico, what are jobs like there, is Mexico as corrupt as we have heard, etc. He said that he makes more money here delivering pizza than he ever did as an engineer in Mexico. He had property in Mexico with cattle on it but he left because crime and corruption was rampant. He refused to raise his children there. I mentioned my wife's parents were from Mexico and we thought occasionally of going down there. His exact words were, I would never go back to Mexico and take my family there; too dangerous.

Now I know that Americans go there all the time and nothing happens. But I also know that Mexico is corrupt from top to bottom in the political arena. In some areas there is crime with some beheadings of citizens both Mexican and tourists. Of course crime happens right in Chicago. I guess like any other country you make a decision to go and be as watchful and careful as you can.

Been there done that! With annual Mexican murder rates pegged at 23,000 in 2017 alone and resulting ancillory crime keeping pace to some degree, Cancun would not be a location I would feel comfortable using expensive camera gear. It is bad enough already in safer countries where more and more locals seem to be resistant to large "professional" looking gear.

The idea of encouraging someone to rob me somehow doesnt make sense. There are several small innocus cameras available that are far less inviting for criminals and less "invasive" for locals to live with.

Cheers!

Get a strap for your Camera and bag with cables in them/ B&H has the in stock, about $25.00

Hate to say this, however, security straps all to often include being dragged to the ground as the theif yanks the camera away. Personal experience...

Cheers!

I'm sure that Mexico is loaded with beautiful scenery and unbelievable historical sites but I will not go there. Back about 1996 while doing a mission at Fort Juachuca I went into Mexico with a couple of our students to Magdelene de Kino. I never felt like I was in a foreign land and the people were very friendly. The poverty almost overwhelmed me. I never felt threatened in any way. Today, however the country is not safe and I will not go back under any circumstances.
