Always something new to learn!

I love it, Matt! Did you try several before deciding this was the most effective for the look? The rectangles of the windows show up so well, like little boxes all stacked on top of one another. Lavender trees are pretty and make a great backdrop for black boats

One I did this afternoon with the help of my four year old grandson, who I took to the science museum to see the fish. He loved this odd pink fish in the salt water tank and wanted a picture of it. He enjoys watching me work on pictures and telling me to do this, add that, change color, etc, to see what comes out, so today we played with the Invert thing, changing the fish, some textures, and some overlays. This is what we came up with.

Super!

I like your conversion image, both before and after. Well done.

Glad you liked it. But anything you see was just pure luck. I chose a shot I like and did what you said. Voila! I liked it so I posted it.

For me, the forms on the right side are too dominant, especially the whitest section with no detail. The left side has interesting possibilities when softer, cooler. What do you think?

Or just cropped?

I see your point but, being a recovering politician, I will have to say I like both yours and mine.

These are some example I have. All of which were generated in gradient map.

I think of this one as "tree doing its air guitar"

Wowsa, the electric lines/steel structure is powerful! Your air guitar and the snow scene with curving lines in foreground are my next favorites. What a great series, thanks so much Mark.

I haven't tried the technique via gradient map (yet). Any tips you want to share?

I spent the better part of two years working in and exploring what gradient map was capable of. It feels a little like working with TNT at first. Something to be harnessed would best describe it. I don't want to go into a very lengthy summary of my learning process. Im happy to answer specific questions. I think you have to take some time with it. Once I began to experiment, the more I realized it was much more than what at first appeared to be some bizarre presets. You can create your own maps in a seemingly endless way.

Enjoyed these, but I really like what happened with the snowy forest scene.

Makes sense that we should do some explorations first, then ask specific questions. Thanks so much.
