To create a negative image in PS or PSE, go to the adjustment layer sub-menu and select invert.

Feel free to add yours to this thread!

1. Original + inverted to make a color negative

2. Then I changed the blend mode of the invert layer to luminosity which gave me the newest colors. This was an experimental action; I hadn't read about it

3. I added a soft pink overlay and a touch of glow. I duplicated the result, flipped the new layer horizontally and repositioned to produce more leaves. I added my quail as stamp-brush. The final edit was a texture from PS Elements called craquelure.

1. Original
2. Invert
3. Masked a lot of the invert to keep original light/shadow patterns
4. Added blue toning and moon

Very nice, Linda. I like the colors and the texture. A lot of the stuff I do requires inverting selections but I've never inverted the colors before. So now I've got a lot of experimenting to do. I can see a lot of possibilities here making background paper for scrapbooking.

Thanks for taking a look!

Here's a lowly dandelion gone to seed. Soft texture added for background color, then I did additional layers of the dandelion slightly offset and experimented with blend modes to achieve this:

I pulled up an old image and inverted it. I tried to lighten it using the opacity slider but that didn't work. It gradually fades to grey and at 50% opacity it is solid grey. Then the original color fades in below 50%. Interesting. So I used a partially opaque mask to lighten it. Then I added texture and used it to replace the background in another old image.

Great idea for a background for your collage!

Yes, opacity doesn't do too well in that situation from what I recall Other than changing blend mode of the invert layer, additional adjustment layers would be the way to go IMO.

I really like the blue one, though all are interesting. I will have to find a suitable subject and give this a try! Thanks for sharing your art!

I like it. The little man in the white suit must be afraid of contamination.

Sometimes playing with inversions can have surprising effects.

A shot of the current visitation of gulls at the local dam was intended to capture blurry moving gulls and water, but it didn't work out partly due to the bright sun. Inverted it still ain't great but it was a little bit more fun to work with. The steps looked so weird in the inversion (like they were drawn with charcoal) that I left them in there. And of course a texture added too.

Great! There are only about five original sections of UHH; the rest have been created over the years (since 2011) and are moderated by volunteers. As you probably noted, in order to see anything else via new topics in the digest or in "newest topics" list at top of page, you must be subscribed to the specialty sections. The vast majority of UHH users never venture outside of main discussion, chit-chat or Gallery
