It's a fantastic camera, kudos to Olympus! They had a little info leaking about this camera about a year ago and even then I thought, this might be some real nice thing they are working on, but now that's it's out, I think it's even better They surely delivered a camera that can play with the big boys, it has been a while since Olympus did anything like that. It's "kinda" comparable to the time when Pentax came out with the LX (still to this day one of the best cameras ever build). I for one like seeing Olympus stepping up and I'm eager to see what's next!

When they finally release the E-M1mrIII, it will have dual processing and more than likely AI like the E-M1X. They may be able to put a dumbed down version of AI for all the older cameras, but it will depend on processing power. That is one of the biggest selling points for the new E-M1X. They put the dual grip on for better integrity and reliability. They felt the added on grip was not the reliability they wanted for a sports camera after observing the use by actual sports photographers with their cameras. So they integrated the second grip rather than add it on as an accessory like the rest of the E series.

Well many are saying it’s a big camera. I have a EM1 Mark II and the battery grip which is about the same size as the EM-1 X, it is far from big & heavy compared to the offerings of Canon or Nikon or Sony for that matter because although the body of the A9 is smaller the lenses are much bigger.
The EM-1X shows where Olympus is taking the micro 4/3 format into the future; that I think upsets a lot of full frame people who believe that only by shooting full frame you can achieve the Nirvana. And I do shoot full frame as well as Micro 4/3.

Seems they had a good thing going with that EM-1 II - but, now … I dunno … seems like they've screwed up more stuff, than the things they improved on. What do YOU think? … Do you have either one? … What's your take? - Should Olympus have left things alone? … Like Hollywood - you're only as good as your last pic!

When I saw the first glimpses of this camera I thought Olympus finally jumped on the FF mirrorless bandwagon....but MFT!! What a behemoth for a MFT I think anyway. I know it has a vertical grip which makes it look bigger but I am not thrilled with it. For 3K I think the money is best spent elsewhere, or on the OM-D M1 ii with lenses. If this were a FF camera I would say Oly really accomplished something that Maitani would be proud of but I think he is turning over in his grave.

It is not as behemothly(?) as it might seem. In fact, it weighs just a bit more than the OM-D M1 ii with the battery grip - a small difference that most people would probably not even notice.

No, not really, doesn’t matter. Does it? I use what I know works for a task. 4/3’s, aps-c, full frame, medium format. But 4/3’s does a lot of things the others do for better or worse. Having the skill to minimize the weakness, that’s where the photographer comes into play. It’s a test and it’s fun to push the limits and test your skill and your vision to create something special. Format means very little.

Not all of us are as adept at using MFTs as we are at using MF cams. Although, I suppose there's some truth in that. I came from 4x5s and 6x7cm cameras, down to 35mm and now - APS-C DSLRs, and I even have a few bridges. So, I suppose you're right. But, have never used a FF, nor an MFT. Perhaps, I just found what was most comfortable to me in Digital - and have never strayed off that … but, I do believe - you should stay with the format(s) - with which you're most comfortable, Besperus!

It is extraordinarily large for an MFT, huh, Chris? … I dunno what they were thinking of, when they came up with this one. It seems the advantage of MFT cameras, is their small size and light weight. But, the EM1x - defies both of those characteristics - which made the Olys - such winning cameras, and earned the loyalty and respect of so many admirers - who'd been used to carrying around these FF Behemoths, and Kits ….

Chris, you were told several times that it is barely bigger or heavier than a gripped EM1 mark2. Let’s stick to facts, not bs.

Barely bigger than the EM1 mark2. The em10 mark3 is a monster compared to a gm1.

But in any case, it should not matter to you, since you are not getting one anyway.

It isn't out yet. The few reviews on line are from folks who have been INVITED to test pre-production models.

To me, the X is a conundrum of sorts. It is GREAT for what it is, but what it is isn't necessarily appropriate for everyone. I wouldn't buy it for video, since it does not have a well-refined set of audio and video features. It would be overkill for the sorts of still photography I do. So I really don't care about it. For what I do, Panasonic's GH4, GH5, and GH5s are a much better fit.

That said, it does push the envelope a bit. I suspect it will sell fairly well to Olympus users. Whether it will attract a broader market — now that Sony, Nikon, Canon, and Panasonic have full frame offerings — remains to be seen.

Bill, have you read any of Thom Hogan's remarks on his sansmirror website?

The E-M1X is only 0.2" to 0.4" bigger, depending on which dimension, than the E-M1mrII with the vertical battery grip. And the E-M1X is substantially smaller than the EOS-1DX by 0.5" to 0.7" depending on which dimension. If one considers the E-M1X a "MONSTER", then one has to consider the E-M1mrII a "MONSTER" because it is not that much smaller. And since those are over all dimensional difference, that means the E-M1X design grew less than a quarter of an inch per side over the E-M1mrII design. The size is more of an illusion because we all are so use to see a camera body without a battery grip attached to it.

Sorry, Chris, I don't consider my E-M1mrII a "MONSTER" camera body nor do I consider the E-M1X a "MONSTER" camera body.

How many people do you know who can match the quality of these 2 photographers using FF or APSC?
