Just an update on the purchase. I tracked the guy down on his cell phone thru various means. The surprised voice was "priceless". A little hard to understand because of accent but lives in Carson, Ca. He says he will check and see if he has the lens I ordered. Said it was all a mistake. We'll see. His messages thru ebay were completely different.

Go through eBay with the refund. If you do it outside of eBay, you are on your own.

Ebay offered a refund but I wanted the lens I ordered. I put an update on here and will keep you all posted.

That is so not true. All the op has to do is make contact with eBay and the op will be refunded.

I have sent the lens back thru ebay so the refund should be taken care of. But I want the lens. It was such a good buy. We'll see how it turns out.

2 claims against the seller in 20+ years, got my money right back. I always use Paypal because of this..

Disagree completely. I've only ever disputed two transactions on eBay and got a prompt and courteous refund on both occasions. Vetting the seller helps, of course, but eBay and PayPal back up the transactions. In fact, I am a little reluctant to sell on eBay because they seem to bend over backwards on behalf of the buyer.

I totally agree. I do a lot of Ebay buying and some selling. Ebay will quickly refund a buyer if the buyer did not receive exactly what was put up for bid. They are very courteous and very quick in resolving complaints. The OP should just be happy to get the money that was paid returned.

They will also force a refund even if the buyer DOES get exactly what was put up for bid. I sold a perfectly functioning Nikon lens but the buyer forced me to refund his money and pay for shipping the lens back by saying the aperture ring was stuck. The aperture ring was in fact locked at f/22 (as you do with Nikon lenses when you use them in auto mode and let the camera body set the aperture.) Moving the aperture ring lock on the lens freed the ring to rotate normally.

But that didn't matter - the buyer checked the ebay box "does not meet description" and that was it. Ebay sent an email to me saying authorize this return label within 2 days or we will do it and charge you. Ebay got notified of the tracking and delivery of the package and I got another email saying authorize a refund or we will do it and charge you.

I think the buyer just wanted the lens for a weekend, and basically got to use it for free. Nice trick to use, if you're that kind of person.

I recently bid on and won a sigma 50-500mm lens. Well when all was said and done the person "kangiwa" shipped an inferior sigma 150-500 lens. The lens has either scratched interior glass or junk in it that shows up on the photo's. I let them know they shipped the wrong lens and that I would return this and wanted the one I paid for. They have refused to send that one. "Bait and switch". After checking out the prices it seems the one that I bought sells for much more but mine was won on a bid. I think "kangiwa" just did the bait and switch because they didn't get what they wanted for the lens. I got it for $350 when others are asking for anywhere between $700-$1600. Has anyone had a similar experience? They should be required to send the one I bought since after the bid it is legally mine right? Any hints on what to do to get my lens? I've already contacted ebay and all they say is return it for a refund but I want my lens.

I have had years of experience on eBay. They will definitely work with you. You must show that the item you received is not as described and as one member already mentioned, PayPal will hold the seller's funds. You can do very well on eBay! Just purchase from those with the 100% positive feedback and long history of selling on eBay and you'll be just fine. When contacting eBay, give them as much information as you can. Photos definitely to prove your claim.

Did you call eBay to explain? Ive had a couple of false claims against me and while they will hold your funds as long as you can prove your case, at least for me the two different times, you can definitely win your case.

You should keep all contact with the seller through eBay messaging but, definitely keep those text messages from him so you can add them as proof.

kangiwa seems to be an honest seller. A lot of feedback with no negative feedbacks! Looks quite curious that he would do a "bait & switch" but you should get satisfaction. What was your item number you purchased if you don't mind providing it?
