I found that the red color did not appear until after midnight, EST. I took all my photos during the approach to eclipse, so I got almost none of the color. I think timing might answer most of the questions of whether there was color in the eclipse.

Good point. I had packed it in just before midnight which would seem to have been to early. Oh well, I hioe that I'm still around with all of my faculties intact for the next one.

Here is my shot from Charlotte, NC
Had you exposed for the dark portion of the moon you would see the red.

I did spot meter on the dark area of the moon. Even at almost total eclipse there was no red color. I'll post a few of my disappointing images later today or tomorrow.

For me here on the West Coast the red color came after it went to full eclipse and started going the other way. Directly overhead. It was gorgeous. I got some good images and some not so good images.

I should have included the info
560mm f/6.3 at 1/125 ISO about 25600. It’s a little noisy, but better than nothing.

I saw a lot of moon shots posted with a red tint to the eclipse. None of my shots had the slightest hint of red in them. Was the color related to the atmosphere?

Yes, related to atmosphere, exposure and PP .........here is the best I have seen -

Mine came out pretty red. The moon was almost straight up, it was cold and fairly clear (slight trace of clouds at times). I used a K3 in live view, and a 300mm f4 lens pretty much wide open. No tilt screen, so it was difficult to see the screen to focus. It came out fairly well considering being close to a big city (Houston) with the light pollution and all.

Yes the WB was set to auto, shutter speed and aperture were set to manual, ISO set to auto.
Lens Canon 100-400 II with 1.4 extender. I probably shouldn't have used the extender.
The camera was a Canon 5D mkIII

Achesley's shot was out of focus and way under exposed.

That is not the blood red moon, the dark part would have been if you exposed for that area.
The red moon was the completely eclipsed moon properly exposed.
