I was there about 1978. From an old school hot rodder who has very little luck trying to grow anything in the ground, that is the most beautiful place I have seen. I want to go back and take my wife. I also intend to park myself in the middle of the Japanese garden and just let every bit of stress drain from my body and mind. It is an amazing place, and should be on every traveler's list of places to visit.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment, I appreciate it. We have been there three times and any time I am in the Northwest I will make to effort to go there. It is pretty fantastic, peaceful and beautiful.

is it as big as it seems? Just wonderful, thank you for sharing.

Thanks for looking in and commenting kay. I encompasses about 55 acres and is packed with walking paths, little places to just stop and look and rest, and it is beauty every where you look.

Excellent set Marsdad.

Good to hear from you Jim, glad you liked them. You would have an absolute ball in this place. Not too many birds but the flowers would knock your socks off. Thanks for looking and commenting, I appreciate it.

I visited there the summer of 2002. The place is truly stunning. Good pics and good info about the place.

Thanks for responding jack, glad you liked the pix. We first visited there in 1992 and have been back a couple of times, it just keeps getting better.

Yes, even bigger! Don't get the idea you can see it in a couple of hours. I was 27 in '78, and I put distance under my feet trying to see it all. Every spot you stop in and every direction you look is an outstanding view. I plan on spending an entire day, and starting the day with a fresh SD card in the camera.

Thank for adding to my description, much appreciated. It is big and difficult to take it all in in one day but more that worth the effort.

We were there in September 2015, and discovered that's an "all day affair" LOL

Everyplace you look is a photo op, and I took 237 pictures.

Thanks for taking a look Dick, I , appreciate the effort and your comments. You beat me on the picture taking for one trip, but not by much. However, we have been there three times so cumulatively speaking I have taken more.

Mid-day light reduces the colors. Go there in the morning or in late afternoon, Marsdad?
You can do some PP to improve on these, but the morning/afternoon light would make your photos shine.
Good Luck!

You are quite right Paul. The Pennsylvania Dutch have a saying that we get "Too Soon Old and Too Late Smart". That definitely applies in my case. If I am lucky enough to get back there again I will definitely follow your advice

The Butchart Gardens is a group of floral display gardens in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Canada, located near Victoria on Vancouver Island. Set on about 55 acres the gardens are designated a National Historic Site of Canada. They host over a million visitors every year. Originally limestone quarry mined for the mineral used in the manufacture of Portland Cement. The cement production exhausted the limestone deposits in the early 1900's. Mrs Butchart envisioned a grand garden and started by transferring top soil by horse and cart as the beginning of what is today is the Sunken Garden and all in all a Canadian National Treasure. These photos we taken on a trip from several years ago.

I join all the Hoggers who endorsed this gorgeous garden. Both times I went, I was lucky to be able to stay all day. The next-best sunken garden is Descanso Gardens at La Canada in Northern Calif. (a few miles south of "The Grapevine" on I-5).
