The Butchart Gardens is a group of floral display gardens in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Canada, located near Victoria on Vancouver Island. Set on about 55 acres the gardens are designated a National Historic Site of Canada. They host over a million visitors every year. Originally limestone quarry mined for the mineral used in the manufacture of Portland Cement. The cement production exhausted the limestone deposits in the early 1900's. Mrs Butchart envisioned a grand garden and started by transferring top soil by horse and cart as the beginning of what is today is the Sunken Garden and all in all a Canadian National Treasure. These photos we taken on a trip from several years ago.

I was there about 1978. From an old school hot rodder who has very little luck trying to grow anything in the ground, that is the most beautiful place I have seen. I want to go back and take my wife. I also intend to park myself in the middle of the Japanese garden and just let every bit of stress drain from my body and mind. It is an amazing place, and should be on every traveler's list of places to visit.

I visited there the summer of 2002. The place is truly stunning. Good pics and good info about the place.

Yes, even bigger! Don't get the idea you can see it in a couple of hours. I was 27 in '78, and I put distance under my feet trying to see it all. Every spot you stop in and every direction you look is an outstanding view. I plan on spending an entire day, and starting the day with a fresh SD card in the camera.

We were there in September 2015, and discovered that's an "all day affair" LOL

Everyplace you look is a photo op, and I took 237 pictures.

Mid-day light reduces the colors. Go there in the morning or in late afternoon, Marsdad?
You can do some PP to improve on these, but the morning/afternoon light would make your photos shine.
Good Luck!
