Truly enjoyed your birds. Great photos.
The Whoopers may be endangered. They migrate with the Sandhills in the same formations. They would fly over in Albuquerque in November (1980's) and occasionally it would be possible to see a single white Whooper with the Sandhills. With the size of the birds and the color contrast it was easy to see them. On the ground they're pretty easy to spot too if there's no snow.
Well done on all photos. I think your immature eagle may be a golden eagle too but am not sure. I love to see birds of prey but am not really into them as many others are. The photo of the two eagles far away is very well done. I like it a lot.

Concur Imm. Bald Eagle the small bird is a Greater Yellowlegs. Good shots of all

Excellent work! I'm jealous. I've wanted to find a javelina, so far with no success.
Me too. I was there in Nov of 2017 and my friends saw the javelina so I looked and looked to no avail. But I did see all the rest in your pictures. Were you there for the Festival of the Cranes? (talking to the OP here but CHG can answer too)

Not a challenge, just a question. Why a Lesser Yellowlegs. I called it a Greater based on the upturned and proportionally longer bill.

I have never gone there for the festival. From what I hear it gets really crowded.

I don't think that they are indigenous to the Chicago area. That may contribute to your lack of success.
What a great set!!

The festival is really cool. Yes, it does get a little crowded especially in town at the restaurants. We went to one of the restaurants and it took them an hour to seat us and the wait staff was awful. I think they didn't take into consideration that there would be a lot more people there for the festival and didn't staff up. But that was at only one restaurant out of all of them. All the rest were fine. The cool thing is that they put a huge tent up near the arboretum and there were a bunch of camera reps there. Canon and Nikon, Tamron and Sigma were there. Canon was printing a huge print free and doing loans on their equipment. They were doing free sensor cleanings. They had all their binoculars there to try. There was food and there were tours that you could pay to go on. Of course, if you are a seasoned vet like I am and you probably are you wouldn't be interested in any of the expensive tours.
I would do it again and might go next year.

Terrific series!
Definitely a juv. bald eagle (the beak is much more massive than that of a golden eagle).
