Elements 10 doesn't have the driver for the latest NEF format???
Just a guess.

I can post the Adobe tables showing what software supports what cameras.

In the meantime, you can download the free Adobe DNG Converter. It is kept as current as all the other Adobe software. It will losslessly convert your NEF files to DNG files that are also RAW and will process in any Adobe version of any age.

RAW is not an image, it's the binary data that's used to create a digital image...you will need to find a RAW converter that will translate that data and create an image for you. The s/w that came with your camera from Nikon might be able to do that for you, or try to find one that does. I'm sure the folks here on UHH will give you some ideas of what you can get :)

The tables from Adobe say the D7200 needs "Adobe Camera Raw" version 9. The table also say that Photoshop Elements 10 went through 6.7. ACR 9 came with Photoshop Elements 14.

If you don't want to spend money on a newer Version of Photoshop Elements, you can read about the DNG format here:

You can download the free DNG converter here: https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/detail.jsp?ftpID=6529

Don't confuse the "Adobe Raw Converter" that opens in Photoshop Elements with the free standing "Adobe DNG Converter".

What is opening on your computer can only use the conversion information on cameras older than your 7200. You can (1) use Nikon software to process your files, (2) buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or (3) use the "Adobe DNG Converter" to batch convert your NEF files to DNG files that will open in your "Adobe RAW Converter".

You can't make Premiere Elements 10 open NEF files from a D7200.

I should add that the (free) DNG Converter functions as a very good utility for moving files from your camera card to your computer. It will put the original NEFs and the new DNGs on your computer in one "batch" step.

If you download the Nikon software (free) your life will be easier.

How does the Nikon software put the NEFs into a RAW format editable by Adobe (and other) systems?

Try using Nef + jpeg; that way you will have the option to use either. I never use raw on its own.

Ain't technology wonderful! I thought technology's goal was to mechanize complicated and boring tasks, making them quicker, better so life would be easier and less complicated, giving us more leisure time to enjoy our interests and hobbies ……yadda yadda yadda
