I frequently forego offers of free shipping, because they normally require delivery via FedEx (who I hate) or UPS (who I intensely dislike). I recently signed up for a FedEx “feature” that purported to allow me to issue instructions regarding a different delivery date and a tighter “window” (time frame). FedEx still arrogantly chose to deliver the parcel whenever/wherever they chose. They left it unprotected outside the entry door to our apartments. I’m through with them forever.
I had a similar experience with FedEx. Complaining to them was futile. I finally called the seller and now all deliveries require adult signature, which I do not pay for, and the FedEx driver must come to the kitchen door which is ~150' off the road. My wife said he is not a happy camper. Boo Hoo .

My queries were in relation to the statement that ‘X’ dealer offers ‘free’ shipping on used gear. Ergo Adorama should do likewise....
In this case, raised by the OP, she had ample opportunity to add the shipping price to the price of the lens and compare that total -PLUS the inclusion of a FREE 6-month warranty - with whosoever else she chose.
The OP is also most welcome to return the lens to us if on reflection she is aggrieved by the shipping cost.
I do not expect one dealer to have exactly the sam... (

Well, Adorama, I think you are an excellent dealer all around. So is B&H and the numerous others recommended on UHH. Too bad some folks take offense at nothing and try to trash you all for no reason!

I have a question about shipping charges on used camera gear.I just purchased a used Nikon lens & was charged $11.25 for shipping from Adorama. I live in Ohio.I don’t remember being charged shipping before. The Nikon lens was over $800.00,I would think that would warrant free shipping,am I wrong? I was told because it was used I would be charged shipping because it wouln’t Be fair to the seller!
I use B&H mostly, and they have free shipping on a lot of items. I have never paid shipping from them.....Adorama sells mostly through amazon and ebay, and charges shipping.......As an amazon Prime member I get free shipping, among a lot of other benifits, for $9.99 a month I pay.

Capitalism!!
Do you have a better economic system than capitalism. If so, pls share it with us.
What Stan said says it all.

I purchased a printer from Adorama thru Amazon and since I have Amazon Prime the shipping was free. Neat trick if you can find that desired lens etc on Amazon.
But you have to "PAY" for your Amazon Prime.

One other detail. "Shipping" isn't just the UPS/FEDEX/USPS charge. Boxes, packing, tape, shipping labor, all cost the supplier money. While they certainly buy their supplies in bulk, it's still a cost of doing business for the seller. "Free shipping" is always buried in the "cost of goods sold".
NO FREE LUNCHES
and don't forget they probably pay for insurance too, overall I think it was a good deal (lol)
I used to ship dozens of packages at Christmas through the post office so I'm aware of postage costs. I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist should a trusted vendor charge a reasonable amount to ship my valuable merchandise in a sturdy well-packed container. Really, there are legit things to get upset about and this isn't one of them.
I just bought a used Nikon 24-70 and the Tokina 16-28 both look like nobody has ever touched them. Got them from MPB and Zarina looked all of the lenses over and picked out the best ones for me. MPB beat B&H, Roberts Camera, KEH and Adorama on equivalent quality of the same lenses. As much as $300 on the Nikon and almost $100 on the Tokina. No shipping, no tax. Wonderful people to deal with.

That is incorrect....Adorama Camera sells mostly through
www.adorama.com, and charges shipping on USED items.
Adorama VIP members get free shipping on most items (plus extended 60 day returns AND free extended warranties) - and it costs less than Amazon Prime.
Shoprunner members also get free shipping from Adorama.
Helen, Adorama is a class act, and as I have said many times, that in my many years of dealing with Adorama, and through many purchases, both large and small, I have ALWAYS been treated fairly in every aspect of the transaction. Adorama has always kept me informed by email during EVERY step of the process from when an order has been received, processed, mailed, and even confirmed that the item had been delivered. I have also received emails asking for input from me to see if I was happy with the product, if the packaging was adequate, etc. I still receive requests asking me to give product reviews and answer questions that other purchasers may have regarding purchases that I have made from Adorama. I consistently find that Adorama has good, solid, and competitive prices, a liberal return policy, with no bait, and switch. I also like that when I call Adorama with a question I am treated courteously and my question are answered without any pressure to buy, upgrade, get the extended warranty, etc. Sure the sales staff lets me know that I have some of these options, but never with any pressure. While I’m sure that I have left something out, I just want you know that I’m sold on Adorama!
Lastly, I am really saddened when some folks state a supposition (...Adorama sells mostly through amazon and ebay, and charges shipping....) as if it were a fact (fake news) and without ANY Factual context. Sadly this is the new way of operating, and it must be pointed out EVERY TIME it happens in EVERY ARENA to keep other folks from jumping on the same bandwagon. Bravo Zulu to both Helen & Adorama, JimmyT Sends.

The simple fact that both Adorama and B&H monitor this forum, and respond to occasional problems-real or imagined- points out the great customer care both outfits exhibit. I have bought gear from both and have nothing but good things to say about each. 2 of the best "toy" stores ever
Hey, Mari, it is what it is!! Not much you and I can do about it. But put it all into perspective. 10 years from now when you are still using that wonderful lens, what will the $11.25 have really meant?? Never look back! Enjoy your new lens in good health!
