Did you read the replies written prior to yours? Not only stating the obvious, but repeating it

Point of view I guess, If I drove to Adorama ( or B&H) and home it would cost me more than $11.00 in gas and tolls at the least expensive route, and maybe add parking, and I bet it's only 10 miles in a straight line, for my neighborhood it's better to order and have things delivered.

Well I guess I will go back to eBay where they give free shipping.I purchased almost all my gear from Adorama but I think I will go elseware after this!

If, as you say, you've purchased much of your gear from Adorama, why haven't you joined their VIP360 Program? One of their benefits is free, 2 day shipping on many items.

Marilyn, I don't think many Hoggers will commiserate with your stance on the relatively small shipping charge you incurred, especially relative to the price you paid for the item.

And where did you get the idea that ebay gives free shipping? ebay doesn't make any promises about shipping....it's up to the seller to set those terms.

Gee , I wonder did you choose one of the other shipping options, because it sure looks as though every lens comes with FREE shipping unless you choose a different option for your item to be shipped.

I just made a purchase (quite large) from Adorama. Shipping was free but had to settle for 2nd day as opposed to overnight. 2nd day was fine for me. I am always happy to purchase from Adorama or B&H, if you need it, service is great. In the past, Adorama sent me a replacement at no charge BEFORE I returned the original item.

I frequently forego offers of free shipping, because they normally require delivery via FedEx (who I hate) or UPS (who I intensely dislike). I recently signed up for a FedEx “feature” that purported to allow me to issue instructions regarding a different delivery date and a tighter “window” (time frame). FedEx still arrogantly chose to deliver the parcel whenever/wherever they chose. They left it unprotected outside the entry door to our apartments. I’m through with them forever.

I have a question about shipping charges on used camera gear.I just purchased a used Nikon lens & was charged $11.25 for shipping from Adorama. I live in Ohio.I don’t remember being charged shipping before. The Nikon lens was over $800.00,I would think that would warrant free shipping,am I wrong? I was told because it was used I would be charged shipping because it wouln’t Be fair to the seller!

From Adorama's website:

"Most items will be eligible for free, expedited (1-3 Day) shipping when ordered through our web site. Some Items are excluded. You'll see notes on eligible product pages, and you'll automatically have a notice in your shopping cart at check out whenever your order is eligible."

If you want to be upset, it should perhaps be at yourself. According to this the shipping charge would have shown up when you checked out. Everything they sell doesn't qualify for free shipping as they state. You had the option of either not purchasing the item or calling them to ask for an exception based upon your purchase history with them. They did nothing wrong. But, if you want to stop doing business with them over $11.25 charge that you accepted when you purchased, go ahead.

Surprised someone hasn't mentioned KEH. It's just like Adorama and I think a little cheaper for like items plus I haven't paid shipping yet..

One other detail. "Shipping" isn't just the UPS/FEDEX/USPS charge. Boxes, packing, tape, shipping labor, all cost the supplier money. While they certainly buy their supplies in bulk, it's still a cost of doing business for the seller. "Free shipping" is always buried in the "cost of goods sold".

NO FREE LUNCHES

Yes,I have purchased a few things that were “used” from KEH & never paid for shipping in the past,I don’t know if it has changed but if not that is where I will go for my next purchase!

Just made a big order from Adorama. 3 big strobes, two heavy light stands and other trinkets. I had several shipping options and one was free. That is the one I picked. I also got a pretty good discount on some of the stuff just by calling and talking to a sales rep.

I just looked at a used Nikon 70-200 and it had a few shipping options, but on that lens, none of the options were free, so you should have been aware of the shipping charge before hitting the "place order now" button.

It has been my experience that Adorama, along with B&H are about the best camera dealers anyone could find.

Yes I know but I couldn’t afford a new lens & I didn’t think they had used lenses on eBay by Adorama.I was a little afraid to buy a used lens on eBay by a private person because u don’t always know what you are getting. My lens will arrive today from Adorama & I am excited even if I had to pay shipping!
