Another for the color, which helps to recognize the subtle horse coloring, etc.

Thanks for selecting one Fred. 4-0 color.

I like the B&W..the color one doesn't have enough color to make a difference...I would do some selective dodging on the horses right side, and some burning on the white trim to tame it down..good shot!

Thanks for your suggestions Bob. It surprises me that you like the B&W.

I love B&W, and often shoot for B&W! I find that often if the colors aren't vibrant, they can be a distraction! I know there are some who don't like B&W at all, but I know many who have nothing but B&W hanging in their homes! I really love the work of Clyde Butcher, who does nothing but B&W.
Do you like the B&W in this post??

Uhmm, I was being sarcastic my friend. I remember from four years ago how you liked B&W! Clyde Butcher was a gangster no?

The B&W is harsh. Color is important because horses are not all the same color.

Since I started shooting race horses in 1971, I have shot about as many as anyone breathing today.

Day in and day out, my favorite shots (and I think my best shots) are of these magnificent animals in their stalls.

One of my all-time favorite shots I took at Belmont in 1987 the morning after Alysheba failed to win the Triple Crown.

It was obvious to me that he knew that it was not his fault.

I love both of your shots. Really hard for me to say which I prefer. Probably the latter. Keep it up. And keep sharing.

This photo was taken at Belmont Racetrack in trainer Gary Contessa’s stable. I was wondering which rendition you think is better?

ISO 500 - 50mm - f/7.1 - 1/160 sec.

Additional critique, comments and suggestions always welcomed. Thanks

The B&W portrait is super. There is so little color in the color version, it's almost a distraction.

They are both nice, but the black and white is the winner.

Since this scene is very much monochromatic I think either image shows off the horse of just fine. Of the two you have shown here, I lean towards the color only because the shadow detail is a bit better.

I believe the color version is more appealing. You can just see the amber color of the horse’s eyes and it makes the wood at the right side of the stall seem warmer. The pink line on the horse’s nose next to the left nostril is more prominent in color.

I like them both. Sorry, I cannot choose between them. Since the horse is a grey, doing it in B&W is really nice. But adding the touches of colour almost make it like a B&W with selective colouring.
