12 Days in China

I recently spent 12 days in China. The main thrust of the trip was to photograph Pandas and in the first 9 days, we visited 5 Panda rehab. centers. Several of them were well off the beaten track, too far for the Chinese city people to travel to ... especially when there is one right in Chengdu. I found the Chinese people to be quick to smile and a laugh is usually not far behind. It was strange playing the tourist role and I wore a "LOST" card around my neck. The card had (in Chinese) Hello, I am lost. Please help me to call my tour guide. It gave the phone # and ended with "thank you very much". If you haven't caught on yet, our tour went into the mountains where tourists seldom appear and English is not spoken, not even in the small hotels we stayed in most of the trip. We were entirely dependent upon our two Chinese guides. I put together a small slide show containing some selected photos. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rw0n808gylomjuy/China%2011-2018.mp4?dl=0 There is sound - I hope you enjoy it.

I use Natural Habitat; if you go to their website, look for The Wild Side of China

Wonderful images, Howard. My favorite is your image of the Great Wall. The composition and perspective is unusual and very pleasing to my eye. China is in our plans for 2020. Can’t wait! You can probably expect a PM from me early next year. Seems that my husband and I are following you in your travels.

We spent 10 days in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou last Spring and our experience was similar to yours. Next time we hope to get more “rural@. The people we encountered were engaging, friendly, and interesting in learning about us. We even had people approach us, cell phones in hand, for selfies!
