I thought I would never own a bag w/o an 80-200 f2.8. Having traded Nikon to Sony I only have two lenses. The 70-300 is great. And 16-55 kit lens (meh) since I shoot sports, action and candidates still can’t wait for a new 70-200f2.8. It’s my Fav!!

That's a Lumix 20mm f/1.7 micro four thirds I was referring to. Sorry about that.

Definitely the 24-70 on my full frame DSLR. Prior to that, it was the 17-55 on my crop frame camera. Both good mid-range zooms.

Canon 24-105 is used 95% of the time, even with 4 other excellent lenses (on full frame).

Full Frame Camera: 24-70mm f/2.8
APS-C Camera: 18-55mm f/3.5 – f/5.6
Micro 4/3 Camera: 12-35mm f/2.8

All three of these lenses produce approximately the same field of view range.

24mm is wide angle, and 70mm is short portrait/short telephoto range on full frame. The other lenses produce similar results on their respective native formats.

I would substitute the 18-55mm f/2.8 - f/4.0 on your APS-C Camera. (and make mine Fuji flavored!)

In your own opinion what is your favorite all around carry lens that you want on your cameras 99% of the time. While walking down the street or in the mountains. If you could have just one what would it be. Gary D

The one thing your post did affirm beyond all doubt, Gary: This IS a CANIKON/NICANON forum!

If I could have just one I might as well just use my phone. I always carry 2 on me one on camera one hanging at my side ready to switch. Usually covering wide to 300mm. There is no one goto lens and is best determined by subject composition and artistic vision. No lens can help with that.

I spoke to a SONY rep at a camera store event and he said the SONY 18-105 is aimed at people who mostly shoot video and suggested other lenses for my SONY NEX-7. I don't particularly like the auto-zoom feature as I'm faster when I zoom manually. How do you like the 18-105 for stills? Thanks, DrJ

I use the 18-105 for stills all of the the time. I rarely shoot video. I like the constant F4.0, but I admit I am tempted to try the 18-135mm for its significant weight and size difference.

Probably a 50mm for short shots

I get to be the pagan whore. Again.
My Zeiss zebra Pentacon 80mm lens, with the Nikon adapter.
To me it's like the ol "Nifty Fifty" of yore. I like the perspective, the focus ring and picture sizes.
I had inherited another D80, and it's been stuck on there. A grab-n-go thing. Looks right, too.
Pretty much manual everything. Then again, I have the (well used) camera it came from.

Best lens is my Tamron 16-300 mm. 3.5-6.3 Di ii Macro. I keep it at the ready on my camera and take it off only during special situations that might demand a change. I have found it to be my most valuable everyday lens.

I love my Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 on my EOS 77D but it weighs a POUND. I'm looking for a smaller lighter stealthier version for street--y travel work. An alternative I'm entertaining is the 24mm 2.8 Pancake.
Bill B., I assume 'cuz you use it that the 18-55 performs well enough for you. That may be my answer. If you can spare the time, PM an answer or your thoughts on alternatives, please.

Tamron 18-200 especially outside or with flash inside. Perfect focal lengths for most everything I do with my DX cameras.

Sony A7iii ---> 24-105mm. Decent wide angle with the capacity to zoom.
