[quote=traderjohn]In the exposing of "my emulsions" is it really art? To me, if you take a manufactured product

It's not what you USE to create, it's how you use it, (and if you're political, why) and it's what you as an individual, with your unique bundle of perspective and experiences, bring to those tools: that's the creative process. And since every one of us is different, the possibilities are genuinely and absolutely limitless, no matter the machinery.

There has never been a definition of art that has been universally recognized. There will always be those who call photography a "craft" instead of art. This applies to ALL crafts. Where is the line between? No one knows. All creative endeavors have this ambiguity.

Absolutely. I often attend "Arts & Crafts" shows. Often with Photos on sale on one stand with watercolors on the next.

No problem with exercising your creative process you are right that is a process you go through taking a picture. Yes, we are all different and bring different mindsets to the taking of the picture. It is to me a picture good or bad not art. There may be some ego gratification at work in calling it art.

If the photographic medium is not to your liking, or is inferior in your opinion, sign off.

Whoa!!! I don't agree with the association of art and photography. Nothing about not liking photography. I never said anything was inferior. Your response indicates you have no understanding of what I said. If you think it's art have at it. I don't. You have to be willing to accept a variety of different beliefs.

Yes. But the results are not electronically contrived as when you use a software program devised by someone else.

Most painters buy their brushes and paints and canvases and frames and easels and often record their subjects first as photos rather than sketches in this modern tech world. Everything changes my friend.

Wow... A hard one to reply with humor... Should I give it a try or should I let my alter ego do so ?
Let's see... The same analogy could be extended to any form of Art (you and UNDERSTAND the
concept, right ?). Music. Whichever instrument you pick on a symphonic or philharmonic orchestra
or a rock band IS a manufactured product and can be manipulated by means of electronic devices.
I Play guitars. Theater. Just paper and ink taken into stage by actors. Good or bad, whatever...
someone will enjoy it. Sculpture. Did Michaelangelo carved those blocks barehanded ?

I could go on and Ono... (pun intended, it is not a typo)

I think people that get into any form of Art MUST have sensibility or, at least, try to
develop it through living it. You, Sir, is a bitter person. Something like a Campari or
a lager beer, which carries an Art on their production and development.

My ego does not need to be satisfied. It satisfies itself with accomplishments.
You see... ? More than two centuries of emulsions and no one came up with that
phrase. Except for me. Wish it were yours ? I do not think so... Jealousy is not
a good thing for the Human being, it only make us even bitter.

I do not know what made you this way, but, Sir, you are a work of art.
Wow... A hard one to reply with humor... Should I ... (show quote)

Yes like you I am unique. Let me tell you one thing now, jealousy about someone's picture is not anything that concerns me. Now bitter; the only time I was bitter was in 67. I had spent 7 years in the Marines was on my 3rd tour and was sent home and discharged. I was bitter about the way I(we) were treated upon our return. Nothing since. I have seen some very nice pictures and others that are not. Just as I have seen great works of art and some to me not so great. There is a difference between both mediums. We all have egos that need to be satisfied.

I understand what you are trying to express and that's fine for you. To me when I take a picture and manipulate with software programs it's still just a picture. Good or bad. Well, I delete the bad ones.

First Anhanga, that is one of the most humorous lines about photography I have read in a while, is it yours or were you quoting someone? Traderjoe, I know your messing with us, as this topic in various ways seems to come up fairly often in this forum. This is a good thing, we need to periodically exam our motives and skills, everyone here wants to grow and improve their photographic abilities. However, to define photography as anything but an art form is to totally miss the whole point of the photographic process. Really!

Yes, I do. But here where I live it is impossible to get good services.

And that's what it is. More to a double-meaning sentence with a pun.
