I would get exactly what I have now. Pretty much end of the story because I am extremely happy with what I have.

Starting over with a clean slate right now? Definitely mirrorless. Sony has a mature full-frame line-up of cameras and lenses that is the gold standard in the industry right now. Furthermore, Sony has been innovating at a rapid pace. Sony also produces great APS-C cameras using the same mount. (I think that Canon and the others will get to this point as well in about three years.) I would also look into Micro 4/3 cameras. I would not invest into a DSLR anymore.

I would replace exactly what I use now.

If you were burgled or had a fire and all your gear was gone (and let’s assume insured), what gear would you buy to replace it? Assume that you have no bodies, lenses, flashes or other items that would tie you to a brand.

Generally, what do you currently shoot? What would you buy?

My main body is a Nikon D500 with plenty of good glass and a F100 that shares the glass. I also have a Mamiya M645 and a Fuji X-T2. If all that were to evaporate, I would:

Replace the X-T2 with the X-T3, my current 2 travel lenses and probably the 50/1.2 and one of the longer lenses. To replace my MF & D500, I would go with one of the two Fuji MF 50MP bodies currently on the market.

Not sure what I would do for film, but it would probably be a Hassy.

Since M43 is dead prices should be falling like a rock... A OMD Mark ll and 12-100 zoom will give me all the focal length I would need for 95 % of most situations..... One body, one lens, one happy human body with one small kit. !!!

Be careful your insurance company doesn't get this post. They might think you have "pre-determined" something. LoL

I have way too much stuff, so I would probably buy just one camera - probably the latest Fuji.

When I lost my Pentax and Minolta gear I went to Olympus OM. These days I would probably go Nikon F3, Df and D850 with a range of lenses. Assuming I got reasonable value I would also go Fuji MF and a couple of lenses.

I shoot Sony A6000 now, and it is still a good camera. But if I were to replace it, I think I would go with a Sony Full-Frame. Good eye-detect, good low-light, and good lenses.

I agree. It's a good thought provoking question.

Too much of "you've got to much time on your hands" statements made.

RB 67 Pro S: would be replaced with an RZ and Leaf back

Calumet 4 X 5: Would replace with same

Nikon D60: Would be replaced with Sony Alpha 7 R-3

Bolex 16mm w/ 3 lens turret: With same if I could find it.

The other 10 cameras from 1910 through 1950:
A good bottle of Scotch to drown my sorrow.
