I am currently using plastic totes, and in each tote is a tin of desiccant to control moisture. I just use an empty tin that held breath mints and punched it full of holes. A stored in a spare closet. Each tote is labeled as to contents.

I have a D850 + 24-70 f2.8E sitting in sight ready for a quick shot, and the rest of my bodies/lenses in a gunsafe with Eva-Dry dehumidifiers.

In two camera bags on the floor of a closet (back pack and side pack).
(My dividers have cloth on them to keep the foam guts contained.)
Hardly used lenses are in cases on a shelf.
Other miscellaneous pieces (chargers, and stuff not always taken on an outing) are in one of the drawers in a nightstand.

We live in a retirement community where various maintenance people have access to the house. After losing some silver flatware I bought a standing Liberty safe which bolts to the floor. Ample room for my D810 and accessories and my guns plus what's left of our silver. Great peace of mind.

My Stuff is spread out all over. Let's see! One camera in the center console of my truck, another in the console of my Vette. one in the tank bag that I swap between bikes, 2 in my room in camera bags on a shelf . tripod between to book cases. and some stuff in my shop near the computer in there. An a film camera I have not used in years on a shelf in a case in the garage.

I am accumulating camera equipment and right now it's scattered around. We have a large house, but a lot of people living here. What I really need is a kid to move out so I can have their room! But...since making a 14 year old go live somewhere else is most likely illegal, I need to find a way to store my stuff in another room. I have looked at cases (like Pelican), dressers, cabinets, etc. I don't know which is the best way as far as not damaging the equipment over time. It's not going anywhere with me. I have smaller camera bags for travel. I just need somewhere to stash it all in one place around the house.

I'm interested in what other people do with all their gear that they aren't using in a grab and go bag. I've been looking online and see differing opinions on the cases due to no air circulation, etc. And people cautioning the use of some foam padding as it breaks down. Not sure how much of that stuff makes a difference. So I'd like to know what the Hedgehogs do! (aside from making family members move out :)

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

I used to have a spare room with a walk-in closet where my camera stuff was stored. I have emptied the room because someone is moving in. My husband bought me a real sturdy plastic shelf that fits right next to my tall dresser. My main camera stuff are in "Go" bags...Sony in one, Nikon in two others. Everything else fits either on the shelves or next to the shelving unit. I have a beauty dish, collapsible soft box, collapsible background, light stands, tripod, monopod, etc. My really good lenses and speed flash units are in a Pelican case in the closet. I also keep all the boxes everything came in and they are in a large rubbermaid box in my closet. If I accumulate anything else, Ill have to give up shoes, purses, and clothes to get it all in my closet!!

What you don't use or need give away to your local high school for their students to use in art or photography classes. It will really be appreciated.

I keep my tripod and monopod in the “trunk” compartment of my Honda Pilot. The rest of my camera gear except for a backpack is kept in a spare bedroom closet either in camera bags or in plastic boxes. During the busy season I just keep the “go to” camera bag on the spare bed. I usually leave my Canon G-15 in my bowling bag so I can take shots of the score videos when someone gets a 200 or better game, including the rare 300 I shot last summer.

Whatever scheme you settle on, keep in mind that humidity is the worse enemy of your gear.

I sold off all my firearms, so I had a large dehumidified gun safe sitting empty. Instead of getting rid of it, I put my cameras and a lot of other photo equipment in it. It’s perfect, and my stuff is safe from prying hands.

I made room in one of my climate/humidity controlled gun safes. I do realize not everyone has a large safe but look into heavy duty cabinets from Lista or Stack-On.

Being an older retired military guy - I have an "I love me room" (small bedroom) that my wife has let me turn into my my camera room/studio. I know that doesn't help - but look into the future and find a cubby hole like a closet that is filled with stuff & things you never use. donate the stuff and take over the space until a room becomes available. I was surprised how much stuff we have that we never use, and it could be helpful to others and freed up more room than I imagined. Surprise yourself!!

Damn, a loaded question... I have stuff in an armoire, a credenza, on top of the credenza, in the closet, in gear bags, in my desk drawer. Just to name a few...

I have stashed my equipment in old (think 1970s style) refinished commode style end tables in the living room. They hold a lot of things and handy to get to. I also have several heavy duty wall hooks in studs that I hang my full bags from. And old, refinished dressers work well too. I keep my extra small essentials in plastic totes. And I have converted smaller closets to storage with shelves- out of the way but assessable. Guess I do a lot of refinishing :)

I would suggest trying to find a space that is suitable to store about twice as much as you currently have. I found my space with a suggestion my wife made "How 'bout we go through the house and get rid of stuff & things we haven't used for years". Donate it and reconsolidate space until we have enough room to store your camera equipment in one area. It worked, and we found more room than I ever imagined. Now I have plenty of room for my equipment with space left over. Try it, for most folks they get rid of stuff they didn't remember they even had.
