Agree. In the first image the road is just a visual distraction which adds nothing to the composition. The road in the second image is an integral part of it and tells the story of a road trip towards beautiful and majestic vistas. But, in the second there is perhaps too much road and not enough mountains. But in any case, IMHO, the second images is far superior to the first.

Appreciate the feedback very much.

Sorry, my honorable colleagues, but I beg to differ with many of you. The first image, exceptionally beautiful, emphasizes the mountains and surrounding hills which are the story. The road is quite correctly a secondary aspect, but it suggests how you - not being a hawk - are traveling to the mountains. In the second image, the road is dominant, the mountains reduced in size - the emphasis is on the road, but we’ve all seen roads before. Pavement is boring. /Ralph

This is bizarre, but I'm pretty sure the OP reversed the order of the photos after several people commented. Good luck figuring out the feedback now

Number 2 is nice.
Go for it!

The second one, no question. The mountains are the subject. The first one reminds me of all of the selfies that are being taken these days - "me in front of the Grand Canyon," for example, with nature as merely a backdrop. What is more interesting, asphalt or the mountains? How many automobile commercials and ads have we seen that feature the highway like that, with the scenery just being a background for our automobile driving mania?

The second image is beautiful, and the artifacts like the road, fence, and signs help give the image scale.

I prefer #2, but they are both nice.

OK, I need to revise my remarks...

I like the first one best. I think the mountains and sky are the most interesting part of the photo, and I've seen too many "road to ..." photos like the second. But I think the first would be better if the road were more centered, just not taking as much of the space as in the first.

Addition: I just saw the issue about the photos being reversed. For my comments, the first has the mountains closer, the second has the dominant road in the foreground.

I absolutely agree.
The second image, view from the road, is so common it has practically become a cliché. And photography clichés generally are boring, even if well executed.

Yup, duh - big mistake on my part. I was having issues seeing the download files, so I created smaller ones and then mistakenly reversed them when I reloaded the smaller files. Sorry for the confusion - but I will sort out the feedback.

Thanks for everyone's patience and feedback.

While it's nice of you, there's no need to respond to each and every post individually just to thank people for their comments. In a long thread, you might have to respond a hundred or more times. Generally you would respond individually only if you had something additional to add, otherwise a general thanks to all who responded is sufficient.

Pavement may be boring but the road to adventure isn't. The main issue with that image is the relative amount of road compared to the mountains. Somewhat less road and somewhat more mountain would have been preferable.
