Would appreciate your feedback/opinion on which of these two images you prefer - I plan to submit one for a local review/contest. Of course, if you think "neither", that is good information too.

Taken just north of Santa Clara, Utah near/on (not sure) the Shivwits Paiute Reservation.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

They are both good and tell different stories. the first one says road trip, going down the highway and what we could see. The second tells us about the beauty of mountains. On the second one I would have preferred not to have seen the road in the photo, but that is just my perspective and I am sure there will be plenty who prefer the road in the scene.

Of the two, I like #2. Viewing them in download, #1's leading lines are slightly offset, which makes my eyes focus more on the road than being drawn to the mountains. #2 has more elements: the scrub growth on the left and the road on the right, which ultimately makes the eye follow to the apex of their lines and then up to the mountains.

What story were you telling?

I prefer the second one--the road looks somewhat extraneous in the first image.

thanks! I had not noticed the offset leading lines, but you are spot on with that observation - again thank you! When I took these, the story was the evening light on the mountains and clouds, and the vastness of the landscape. if that all makes sense.

Thank you for your input - much appreciated. I do understand your comment on the road in the second image, I was limited in terms of where I could position myself for the photo.

Thanks again!,

Both are nothing more than snap-shots.

Agree. In the first image the road is just a visual distraction which adds nothing to the composition. The road in the second image is an integral part of it and tells the story of a road trip towards beautiful and majestic vistas. But, in the second there is perhaps too much road and not enough mountains. But in any case, IMHO, the second images is far superior to the first.

#2. I love "road to nowhere" pictures.
