Nothing - other than look at various ones from time to time for the sake of doing something

Most of my images are just for myself and family. For displaying them, I have several of the digital photo frames that just keep cycling thru the images it contains. One frame for my wife and me, one for my daughter and one for my son. In addition to my images, I add images sent by my daughter and son. I keep them current by updating and swapping the SD cards periodically. On each SD card I maintain a chronological set of images sent by my daughter (she lives in the UP so we don't get to visit too often) to record my grand daughters birth up to the most recent photos which gives us a pictorial view of her growth and experiences. Then I add any new images they send to the mix, such as vacations and family gatherings up thru our most recent photographic attempts. Basically it is an ongoing family project. I back up each SD card to a pair of NAS drives so there is an archive, which can be accessed via internet by my son and daughter. This is a modern version of our old family photo albums that have pictures going back to the Civil War era.

If I ever get around to it, I want to create slideshows. Check out recent postings by Sunnely to see what can be done.

Pick the VERY few out of a photo shoot I REALLY like and after processing, put them onto this computer's desktop. Then if I've not paid any attention to them over the next several weeks and the desktop gets crowded, they are simply deleted. Sure, I regret it sometime but not having to mess with them feels much better - been doing this for the last couple years.
There are boxes upon boxes of them in storage down in the basement dating back to the forties that I haven't opened in a dozen years or more. However about five years ago I invited my children over to look through them and get what they wanted. Each took a very small handful.
Anyone wanting a half dozen year old multi terabyte multi redundant storage system please pm me.

Saved on PC and external HDs to be looked at once every now and them. No real organization, just files on top of files by date!

Great question what to do with all the thousands of digital images! Mostly it stays on harddrives and very difficult to show to friends and families! My dad used to shoot slides and then from a young age we had slide shows every now and then, that was before video! Yes you can share on Facebook or any kind of social media platform but soon they disappear until you load up some new ones. Many viewers will either like it or even give a comment but then its gone!

During the film days you handed in your film to be processed and got 4x6 prints back, through away the duds and the others made it into a album which was portable and did not use any form of power to illuminate! Still today I page through my albums but photos are starting to fall out!

Its been my idea to compile a photobook for a long time but hesitated as it is expensive in my country to print! However I just have to do it as it is the only way to show friends, family and guests of the places I have visited and its mobile! I don' want to make a proper portfolio printed on high quality paper like coffee table books as this is very expensive! My need is more like a magazine type of photobook, not necessary magazine type of paper but "bending" paper type of book so that I can have several books! My other problem is: what size of book? A4 portrait or A4 landscape or what ever!

Comments?

Actually FB things do not disappear if donei correctly.
As I stated earlier we have set up specific sites for historical photos, dairies and other things of ancestors to present. Those with interest download what they want. If not then they don't care nor does anyone else.
My hundreds of old photos are in great demand up through the present as nearly all are unique and never seen by those alive ever. They were negatives etc. Not printed or prints lost. They were in containers to be thrown out until I dug in and saved them.

I create photo shows with accompanying music using Pro Show Gold. You can find it at photodex.com for a free trial and lots of samples of its power. Very easy learning curve.

Create a screen saver folder that shows the best on your computer or tv. Print some enlargements and exhibit them at the local museum, give a power point illustrated talk at a nursing home, post some on Facebook or flicker etc.

Store everything on external hard drives. Print, frame, and hang the recent "outstanding" shots throughout the house. Enter the occasional photo competition. Burn slide shows (w/music) of the travel photos to share w/family and friends. Use some for greeting/note cards. Just have a grand old time impressing myself. :-)

Photo albums or photo books. Including who, what, when, where, (why), with every photo.
When the grandkids come to visit, they love to look at the pictures, and even though the photos are captioned, they still manage to come up with new questions every time they look at them.

The best ones get printed and hung, but running short on Wall space, especially since my son has turned out to be a better photographer than me. Everything gets backed up over the network to another server/storage and nightly uploaded to Amazon S3 cloud (my son’s have the login info for the sake of preserving family history). Finally, I periodically archive to MDisks which go in my (relatively) fire proof safe. Can’t have too many copies of your data!

For family and friends pictures I burn into CD-Rom or SD cards and send to them after each event/trip (after minor fixing).
For personal pleasure pictures I post them in Flickr and/or other photo websites to share with my circle of photography friends.
Most favorite pictures I print them and hang in the house of in my study.
I don't have FB account for personal security reason due to the nature of my profession.

By the way I copy all of my personal pleasure pictures to my father for his evaluation and opinion.
He is 91 yrs old but still very active in photography around the house.
He is too weak to travel anywhere long distance but he has 80 years of experience in photography.
I learn a lot from his criticism.
