It is hard to discuss your points. I shot a lot of subjects, mainly landscape photography with a D70s and the old, first version of the 24-120 lens. Many of those files were enlarged to 12x18 inches with no sweat and I keep those enlargements. I even did a wedding with those and the couple was delighted with my work. I am no professional and I do not use modern cameras. I am not either a pixel peeper.
Modern multi megapixels cameras are superb tools which coupled with professional lenses are very capable of big, mural size enlargements. If you need one of those it is up to you if you have the money and if you do critical landscape photography and weddings or if you simply want to own one. Many of us do pretty good with amateur cameras and in my particular case I usually shoot with 17 megapixels because my requirements are not so strict like those of a professional. Enlargements from those 17 megapixels when I have done my part have been full of beautiful colors and details.
I am happy with what I have but I can understand those who want or require more megapixels.

Sure it is and the more you practice the easier it is to release it.

This may have already been stated in a different manner. A tool has its inherent abilities to perform a given task. However, the developed skills of the person using the tool will utilize these inherent abilities to produce the end result(s) equal to his/her developed skills. In my case, with photography being the subject, the inherent abilities of my modest and outdated equipment far exceed my developed skills in utilizing them to their fullest capability. This disparity will increase greatly as I update to newer equipment. The "silver lining" in all this will be that my learning curve, and abilities, will also increase over time, and with use of the newer equipment. The flip side of the coin will be that I seriously doubt that my developed skills will ever come close to matching the inherent abilities of the newer equipment. But it should be fun trying anyway. Just my take on it all.

And some don't complain. They just get inventive.

Life is life and we will get by with what we own with out complaining.
Well some people will.
It is just fun to type the word mega pixels.

I still use film cameras exclusively. I’ve yet to have an editor or customer complain about the quality of my work.

Ok great you have a D850, good for you. And lets see here, the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 isnt sharp, is the Tamron Sharp? And all you take are snapshots.
I'm sorry but its not the camera, its not the lens, its you!
Learn to use the tool, 6 good megapixels will do a nice 11x14, I've got great pics using a Fuji S-1 pro with an old 24-120 pre VR, I'm no pro, but I'm proud of my work.
I think its kind of like buying your own conch shell with nothing to say (Lord of the Flies)
The following were taken either with S-1 Pro or Coolpix 5000, 3.5 and 5 mgpxls
But if you're good! (David Pine) need Hyper prints or cropping Mega megapixels the D850 will certainly be more than enough

And your point is? Are you just wanting to show photos in the wrong section? Don't like the gallery section?

That didn’t occur to me, but someone wanted me to post the full size ones, I’ll take them down

Don’t get caught up in the megapixel wars and debates. Keep in mind that 99% of the worlds most memorable and impactful images were made with cameras and lenses that are vastly inferior to our modern day offerings. Whatever you own and are shooting with now, is more than sufficient to bring your vision to fruition. It’s all about your personal vision. Spend your time honing your technique and vision.

So, what was the point of this rant!? Is my Tamron sharp? It's sharp enough. Do I have a D850? No, I have to settle for my older 5DSr. I don't have a Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 but I do have a Canon. I do have an EF 85 f/1.2, now there's a bokehlishious lens. I take lots of snapshots and composed photographs. I have a Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6 and a Sigma 150-600 Sport. My smallest lens is an EF 40 f/2.8 pancake lens. I bought a Tamron SP 70-200 f/2.8 when they first came out. The sales guy said it was as good as the Canon and $500 less expensive. It's not as good as the Canon, although it's darn close and it's not off white with a red band. I've got several black and off white lenses with a pretty red band. I believe they put the red band on the lens so they can charge more.
My widest lens is 11 mm and my narrowest is 600 mm and my favorite is 28-300 mm, Canon not Nikkor, although I do have one. My favorite Nikkor lens is 16-80; and when I say favorite I mean used most often.
I have a 3 mpx, a 6 mpx, a couple 8 mpx, a 10 mpx, a 15 mpx, a few 18 mpx, several 20 and 24 mpx, a 30 and a 50 mpx and a few I don't even know how many megapixels the sensor is; so what?!
I take nice photos and crappy photos. The vast majority of my photos are snapshots that rarely anyone else but myself will ever see.
My dog may not be bigger than your dog but it's no doubt friendlier.
My car, truck and motorcycle are all shades of red and red is not my favorite color. Ironically I live in a red brick house.
Well I think that about covers it. I'm me and you are you and sorry it is the camera because without, you cannot capture that fleeting moment in time. Have a really super pleasant, productive and prosperous day.

I don't need a lot of MP for the final image. Something like 12MP is good enough for me. If I crop the image to gain magnification (not slight cropping for composition) then the more the better. But if I do that perhaps I would be better off buying longer lenses.

You really think your images are so good and above the rest? Sorry, they are not.

The only thing you got right is that a good camera is only as good as the photographer. A great (newer) camera held by a great photographer will yield greater images than an older (great) camera held by the same great photographer. (Think scalpel vs laser micro surgery, according to you surgeons using a scalpels are better than those using using lasers "Hey they left a neat, well define inches long scar, vs a small incision that needs maybe two stitches. Great surgeons can use both.).

As to go out and call out folks on their 'snapshots' well sorry, buy a mirror and look at your own 'production'. I am not sure if you are angry because you cannot afford some better stuff, angry because you have stalled in your growth or simply angry because life is soooooo unfair. Trust me many folks are their own worse critics, even if they get upset when criticized.

Right now this thread reflects on your character as a person, nothing else. As a photographer, the 'great, supposedly awesome' captures your present are a poor sample of your work, I hope.

You just remind of a friend of mine that has a wife, an ex he loves to hate but run to when she needs help, five girls (12 to 25) two bitches (dogs) and a mare. Says he hate 'females' but when asked why he stays answers: 'What would I do?'

Some folks are just masochists.

Good luck with that... Maybe you need a 850 instead?

You can always stitch!
